Zimmerman spared himself from sure death with that gun. Hell, thanks to his quick actions, he didn't even need a trip to the ER.

I backed away from this thread for the reasons you note. I felt like I was reading one of those fan boards. Lots of yelling, screaming, name-calling and belittling others but little lucid thought. Too many closed minds, which I found unusual given this is a board for journalists.

I wish I knew what "weeks later" meant. Like, after the public uproar, or before?

Either way, this Zimmerman guy sounds like a real racist:

He's apparently a very colorful speaker.

Depending on what the witnesses said, I believe them.

Reading what these witnesses changed their stories from and to, I didn't get the sense that they wanted to affect the outcome of the trial as much as they seemed to be trying to salvage their own lives from the trial...

Can't say that I blame them.

I'm no legal expert and certainly don't know Florida's rules, but it seems to me that if witnesses are changing their stories, the prosecution has nothing, no? If none of them have credibility because their stories changed, the only witness left is Zimmerman, and if the burden of proof is on the prosecution, he walks.

Changed and changed again. Let's not forget that Sanford PD was correcting witnesses as early as the night it happened.

Another officer corrected a witness after she told him that she heard the teen cry for help.

The officer told the witness, a long-time teacher, it was Zimmerman who cried for help, said the witness. ABC News has spoken to the teacher and she confirmed that the officer corrected her when she said she heard the teenager shout for help.

He may walk, but he'd better be looking over his shoulder.
