Which is why getting a conviction is going to be very difficult.

Theoretically, whoever survived the confrontation was going to be able to cite the Stand Your Ground defense. That's the terrible part about the law -- it invites this kind of behavior. I thought this case and the reporting about other Stand Your Ground cases would have led to a change, but then this is Florida and this is Rick Scott's kingdom we're talking about.

It's amazing how Martin was able to attack and pummel Zimmerman without accumulating a single abrasion -- or even a trace of (Zimmerman's) DNA -- on his (Martin's) hands.

    try to read better.

a lot of people -- including certain posters on this thread -- just want to see a white guy get off for killing a black guy. just like the old days.

Oh clutch my pearls, threats on Twitter and Facebook! There were also idiots who've threaten Justin Bieber for daring to touch the Stanley Cup. I guess they're serious too?

As for why the trial is being televised, it isn't the threat of violence with the outcome. Unless, of course, you think that was why Casey Anthony's trial was on TV or why Jodi Arias' trial was televised. It's on TV because it's cheap filler for the 24/7 networks.

Wait, there is a white guy on trial for this too? I thought Zimmerman was the only one charged.

Fine. Then explain to me why law enforcement in Sanford (where the incident occurred) and south Florida (where Martin lived) is gearing up for violence. They're obviously taking the social media threats seriously.

Because there are assholes of all races ready to kick it off regardless of the outcome.

The same reason the cops in my town "geared up" for a possible mass shooter event in a school by holding a drill last week. Their job is to be ready for all eventualities.

Have there been threats of violence if Zimmerman is convicted?

That is actually an honest question. As noted before, I haven't really followed the trial.
