I keep hearing people say -- and, Mike Barnacle was the latest on Morning Joe -- that the jury had no other choice but to acquit, given "Florida's self defense laws."

Would someone like to point to a state that has a self defense law that would not have applied to the defense Zimmerman's team presented?

I get, from my Facebook feed, that the Rush crowd is up in arms about "white Hispanic" today. It seems to be the first bullet point on the official talking points memo, followed closely by some 911 transcript that MSNBC allegedly edited a few months ago.

Is George Zimmerman not white and Hispanic?

Because those states don't have "Stand Your Ground" (SYG) laws? As I understand it, Zimmerman's defense team didn't avail itself of SYG "doctrine" (if that's the right term) but rather standard self-defense principles that would obtain in any state. SYG really only came into play in those initial weeks, when local authorities decided not to charge him. That's as I understand it ... I might be in error.

Oh, it was edited. NBC actually apologized for it.

Well, apparently, it is a big, big, big deal today!!!!!ELEVENTLY111, not the least of which is the hypothetical Zimmerman libel suit that the Rush crowd is whacking off to.

I think that's accurate. But keep in mind that it took a quiver out of the prosecution's bag with no duty to retreat, regardless of whether the Zimmerman team employed it or not.
