I will be happy to hear Zimmerman's version of events.

    Under oath.

Never pass up a chance to blame George Bush for something.
At this point, a trial would be a huge waste of time, simply because the Trayvon Martin side will hold with only one outcome. You might as well lock Zimmerman up now (hopefully in protective custody). He can't win, even if some or all of the facts prove to be on his side. We don't know all the facts. That's what trials are for but again, I think it would be useless in this case.
Unless, if course, the Feds step in and Eric Holder personally conducts a news conference to say there's insufficient evidence to charge Zimmerman. At that point, the black community really wouldn't have an argument.

In this case, whether or not Zimmerman "should" have a gun is not a matter of his legal rights.

The trouble is we're not getting new 'facts'. We're getting a counter-narrative to the story we heard first from Martin's family and their attorney. We got that story only because the authorities and the media didn't bother to present a factual, timely, disinterested one.

There are a million holes to fill in this case. Every day that passes without real reporting from the press or real disclosure from the cops, we get farther and farther into symbolism and politics. And farther from ever knowing what happened.

Like I said, I'm not sold on his version.

But, there are two versions. And, it goes a long way to explaining why he wasn't arrested in the first place.

I'm glad a second look is being given to this case, and the people that called for it are to be congratulated.

But, now, it's become such a cause célèbre, that you have to be concerned that instead of their being no justice for Trayvon, it might be difficult for Zimmerman to get a fair hearing.

Folks like Al Sharpton, won't back down. They're never going to say, "well, it looks like Zimmerman was justified."

The rush do brand Zimmerman a murderer -- even if it turns out to be true -- is just as bad as the rush by the police to excuse his actions.

Man, Trayvon Martin might have flipped someone off in a picture. He deserved to be stalked, harrassed, and shot to death.

I would think that the police would only provide information if asked by the media. Unfortunately the media was not asking questions early enough or fact checking the narrative put out by the Martin family.

Way more than 2 versions here.

Let's not forget that Martin lay in the morgue for 3 days because the cops never bothered to ID him. Or that Zimmerman has been allowed to go into hiding.

The Sanford cops play a very big and awkward role in this.

Are they "new" facts or just "facts"?

Zimmerman wasn't charged originally. Why would they be in a rush to put out exculpatory facts, when he wasn't charged?

The story didn't originally get a lot of press, and I would imagine they weren't looking to drum up interest in it.

As the Times story from the other day points out, Trayvon's family's lawyer was able to drum up a lot of press interest. When this story hit the national press, the only "facts" we had were the ones provided by Trayvon's attorney.

Maybe they were the "facts" or maybe they were just this side of the story.

Az - pretty sure that I read that Mr Martin IDed his son on Monday morning so original stories were not correct.

If you find a citation, please share it. Everything I see continues to put the ID at 72 hours or so. Thanks.
