Sorry, I've read quite a bit about self-defense laws, and particularly dislike Florida's...just venting. Obviously if the stalking accounts are true, no self-defense law is going to save him...

This is truly a disturbing case. How do you not arrest the guy and let him claim self defense at trial if that's what he wants to stick with? It's also worth noting that Zimmerman outweighed Martin by nearly 100 pounds, but Zimmerman wa afraid for his life? He was so scared of this kid, he stalked him and confronted him? Also, even if Martin did engage in a fight with this loser, who can blame him? He's being confronted by a stranger with no legal authority whatsoever at night. Hell, I would have a problem with that, too.

Whoever said that somebody up the political food chain needs to crack the whip is more right than they might imagine. Can you imagine the shitshow if this isn't prosecuted by the time of the GOP convention in Tampa?

I don't think Missouri's castle doctrine is to the degree that Florida's is, but they recently closed a gap in it; now you can kill someone who is in your yard threatening you. Before, the law only applied specifically to your house and your car.

After living out of state for 11 years, I was amazed at how conservative Missouri had become. It definitely wasn't the place I remembered.

Zimmerman needs to feel the full weight of the Justice Department coming down on his ass. Killing someone who broke into your house is one thing, killing someone because they look suspicious (seemingly code for "black") is entirely another thing.

To recap: Under this historic Florida legislation signed into law by Governor Jeb Bush, walking too slowly in the rain while wearing a hoodie, talking with a friend on a cellphone, and carrying skittles and an iced tea is sufficient reason to follow someone, confront him, initiate a scuffle and shoot him twice, killing him. Then you can walk away as long as you say you were defending yourself.

Yep. Here's another case that illustrates the utter stupidity behind "Stand Your Ground":

    http://www.tampabay.com/news/courts/criminal/witnesses-dispute-trevor-dooleys-stand-your-ground-claim-in-valrico/1206308

Quick synopsis: Suburbs, broad daylight. Teenage boy was skateboarding. Old dude comes out of house and says to kid, "Hey, you can't skateboard there." Off to the side, a dad playing basketball with his 8-year-old daughter says, "Hey, go easy on the kid, he's just skateboarding." Old dude says "Fuck you" and shoots the dad, in front of his daughter. Claims he was "standing his ground." That sumbitch should fry too, imho.
