It's almost as if you were going to criticize them no matter what.

    And they shouldn't be criticized?

Maybe they should have said, "the edit, by our producer, Mary Jones, was deliberately deceptive. It was not up to the high standards of NBC News. We apologize to our viewers, and Ms. Jones has been fired as a result of her actions."

But, if they admit the error was deliberate, it opens them up to question of how systemic this kind of deliberately deceptive editing of the news is at NBC. How does it slip through?

So, they call it an honest mistake, but fire her to appease the critics.

His/her career gets ruined, but NBC News covers their own ass.

How do you know it's systemic?

    I don't.

And, by firing this one producer for an "honest mistake", there's no reason to investigate further.

If they determined it was deliberate, they'd almost be forced to investigate whether or not it was systemic.

Because NBC seems to have a history of altering to fit the narritive

Maybe the fired co-conspirator will sing like a jailhouse canary... or maybe they've thought of that and bought her silence or had her killed. Probably had her killed.

    Sure, if it's at-will employment.

A company can fire an employee if they don't like the color of the shirts they are wearing.

    Who said that?

First of all, the state has a much higher responsibility to get it right, when we're dealing with a question of someone's liberty.

But also, I'd like to get "all the facts" in the NBC circumstance as well. It was white wash. They fired this producer after one day, to protect themselves, and to stave off any real examination of their news gathering and reporting procedures.
