Tawdry, sordid, even disgusting things happen every day that are not crimes. Note that the state's attorney's comments on the credibility of the alleged victim nicely torpedo her chances in any civil suit.
Let's face it, if she recanted in public, that wouldn't be enough for Heyabbott.

We still need pictures to close the SJ case file.

Did they make up her quotes? Did they make up the affidavits from the other players?

Do we know the nature of the conversation when the police officer warned the alleged victim about possible backlash? Was he being a dick and trying to sweep it under the rug, or was he talking to a person who kept changing her story and warning her of the very real possibility of public backlash?

It's possible the officer was seeing little evidence and an alleged victim who couldn't get her story straight and trying to look out for her interests when the story was made public. I have no evidence to support this theory, but I also haven't seen any evidence to support the alternative. Just as we don't want to dismiss the alleged victim, if her story is bullshit then Winston becomes the victim of a smear campaign that has been pretty successful.

Or maybe, just maybe, (1) the whole "they told us this is a football town" nonsense is just more bullshit from the accuser and her lawyers and never happened and (2) the reason police intended to "sweep this under the rug" is because they listened to her story, saw it change, got back some of the physical evidence and determined that there was no crime and she was lying or at least story telling.

Did some of you who seem so sure that this accuser has to be telling the gospel truth and that Winston got away with rape or date rape or assault or whatever you want to call it --- ever stop to think that maybe, just maybe, this chick is story telling?

No, no, no - every woman who accuses a male of rape is telling the gospel truth and regardless of what the evidence shows or what the law enforcement people determine based on the evidence, it happened as she said it did and if there are no charges or no convictions than the man got away with it and we have a rapist walking free.

How do I know this - because the Long Time Listeners of this world keep telling me this......

I think it is ridiculous that there is a certain segment who just refuses to believe, no matter what the evidence says, that the accuser in these situations is sometimes story telling and is doing so for a variety of reasons......

    So to boil this down:
On one hand you have an incident being handled by a big FSU fanboi detective, involving a FSU quarterback that the detective likely knew would be a star in the near future.
On the other hand, you have an accuser who seems to not be the most credible person out there.

No, you had a big black star athlete having sex with a defenseless "wittle" white girl and she claimed it was rape, so that is the gospel truth, evidence be damned

What does race have to do with anything?

And the evidence doesn't prove she was not raped, only that there's not enough to prove she was in a courtroom.

In all seriousness, I hate the certitude that people tend to get on these things. And their position only becomes more extreme over time. If you're the family, friend, or lawyer of one of the two principals in the case, fine, advocate and be certain. Otherwise, you should probably be doing a lot of hedging lest you come off looking like a total bigot or a misogynist. Your argument isn't convincing anyone. But it is showing them who you are.

This time last year I had someone smart enough to have gone through 3 years of law school and pass the bar, and a big sports fan, expressing his certainty that Lance Armstrong had never used PEDs. How'd that work out for him?

There is FAR more evidence to prove she WASN'T raped and is full of shit than there is to prove she was. Yet some people insist on continuing down this path that "well he wasn't exonerated, this was just a legal technicality" and that is bullshit.
