This. Hard case to prove. But neither of them had to put themselves in that position in the first place. Hope it's a lesson learned for both.

Having spent a little time around college athletic dorms, the two players' stories sound about right to me. Get a woman in a room with a bunch of immature jocks and there is bound to be stuff like that going on. I've seen it happen, with guys banging on doors, barging in on the act, etc. I believe the sex was consensual and later regretted, but I certainly won't be looking at Winston the same way from now on.

I can't believe a public defender would write this:

As for Winston? He was never even interviewed by the police. He "declined" through his attorney.

Very cynical and manipulative toward her readers, particularly the use of scare quotes.

    As is this:

My clients, usually poor minority men with no shot at the Heisman, were never given the option of "declining" to be interviewed by the police.

    Yes they were:

This is also perhaps the first time I've heard a public defender say that prosecutors should be bringing more cases:

Where are the prosecutors who say, "I believe my witness, we're moving forward, and we'll let the jury decide who's telling the truth"? THAT's what prosecutors are supposed to do.

    No, they aren't:

    And tell these guys that:

Exactly my thought when I read that line, Dick. That's one bafflingly ignorant statement from someone claiming years of employment as a PD.

She probably thinks Brian Banks got what he deserved.

Sounds like she's not a very good public defender.

"Where are the prosecutors who say, "I believe my witness, we're moving forward, and we'll let the jury decide who's telling the truth"? THAT's what prosecutors are supposed to do."
But Meggs didn't believe his witness. That's why he didn't bring charges.
And people like this "public defender" and Christine "Aunt Bee" Brennan need to get off the Meggs chuckling thing. If anyone has been to two consecutive press conferences with Meggs, regardless of the subject, he's quirky like this. It's more of a nervous tick than anything. People who are unhappy that Jameis Winston hasn't been frog-marched and held without bail are groping for anything they can.

FSU faces inquiry from DOE's Office for Civil Rights regarding some curious behavior in the early stages of its investigation, including talking to Winston but not to the woman.

    Not just football.

Eerily similar situation happened at a certain Jesuit institution in Milwaukee. That fine leader of men, who really cares about kids, recently found employment elsewhere.
