Right. That's what I'm saying. Until I got to the child porn details, that seemed steep. I knew there were some child porn details coming, but I thought maybe they were related to the teen-agers.

How on Earth does that conversation even start? Was it part of Fogle's interview process when hiring Taylor to run the charity?

It's important to note these are NOT just child pornography charges. He was charged with fucking at least a few of the victims, and he was seemingly intimately aware of their trafficking, as he's accused of timing his business travel to coincide with their availability for "commercial sex."

Fuck him. I hope he gets shanked in prison instead of raped.

The law doesn't see it that way about sex with 16- or 17-year-olds. Sex with a minor is sex with a minor is sex with a minor. And rightly so, in my opinion.

Based on the plea agreement info, I hope karma takes good care of Jared.

I think the age of consent in New York is 17, though.

As Dick pointed out, the age of consent in New York is 17. And almost all states have varying degrees of sexual assault. At one time we treated all sexual assaults, from statutory rape to violent rape, with the same harsh punishment. That's not been the norm for some time and in most sexual assault codes that I've seen, the punishments for sex with a 16 or 17 year old are much less harsh than those for a younger teen.

That former federal prosecutor I referred to in the Supreme Court same sex marriage thread is on the defense side as a quasi-retiree now. The bulk of his practice involves child porn cases. He says the pay's good, but it can be a beating, because you're not going to win. A really good day is when you've shaved a few months here or there off the sentence.

I can differentiate between an alleged rape victim and a child pornographer.

I have no problem wishing bad things on child molesters, if that includes prison rape, so be it.

Let's see if I can get this one by the self-appointed fun police:

Jared should have transformed himself into a hot female high school teacher instead of a Subway spokesperson. Then the poin rules would have worked to his benefit (probably lighter sentencing).

    Jared likely won't enjoy prison.

But, I'm not going to root for him to be raped, even if he might deserve to be treated harshly for what he did. It makes me less of a person to want to see someone treated inhumanly just so I can be satisfied that retribution has been delivered.
