At this point, the debate should be continued here [IMG]
    instead of in the press.

Everyone go have some beers, ding dong the witch is dead, throw some darts at a makeshift Mariotti dartboard, and put the whole thing on Royko's tab. He would understand.

    Game. Set. Match.

Last one out, turn off the lights.

Talk shit all you want, Joe, but all of things you point out in jest are exactly what I do. And aside from the Guild side of it, which is, admittedly, an unusual anomaly, there's others like me who work their asses off and do the same. And while my shop is not large, it ain't small either.

A person can manage and still participate in the day-to-day of the business, people like me have been doing it for ages, but based on your posts, you think all managers fit in one category, while rank-and-file fit another. It's simplistic and that's what I mean when I say you paint with a broad brush.

As for your ideas, I'm all for them. Who wouldn't be? Now figure out a way to implement them. Like I said, it's easy to point out the obvious, but only the good ones figure out a way to make it happen.

I know our ad problems are real and very disconcerting, at least in-house, can't speak for corporate.

Shottie, I don't know why you're uptight about this either. As Ace said, Mariotti is getting some of what he dished out. He is definitely not a sympathetic figure. Look what Ebert said about him.

This really is simply a tabloid-style episode, from both sides.

The word is that Mariotti already has set up an interview in San Jose. The Mercury News was a pioneer on the Web, and if Mariotti is serious about the Internet, what better place than Silicon Valley? Plus, it’s a Singleton paper, so they could leverage him throughout the chain and maybe get some pop.

Didn't Skip Bayless crash and burn when he went to the Merc? Why would Mariotti play any better out there?

Mariotti is a better writer, but they're cut from the same cloth.

    Ebert blasts Mariotti

I have always loved Roger Ebert; he is one of the most talented, hardest working journos in the business.

Now I may ask him to be the Godfather of my next child. Seriously.

Or Deano could shit a brick when he sees what the Merc would pay Jay and slash more Cali jobs.

I thought San Jose was shedding staff left and right.

I guess if he is willing to work for $11 an hour, he could probably swing it, though.
