He should go for a web designer/hair stylist.

If he moves to the Tribune (Internet only), the fireworks after his "newspapers are dead" comment will be breathtaking ...

Zell + Mariotti = Tribune Tower implosion, just from all the bad mojo.

  7. And somehow, he'll forget he ever said it, just like anything else.

Mariotti leaves Sun-Times, that paper takes a hit from readers who had been told for years that he was The Franchise.

Mariotti goes to Tribune, that paper takes a hit from readers who laughed at him and the commuter tabloid for all those years.

No Sun-Times readers will cross over to the dark side to read the uppity Tribune, even if they were Mariotti fans. No Tribune readers will soil their manicured hands on the grunts' rag.

So this would be a lose-lose of massive proportions, one egomaniacal sportswriter placing a pillow over the face of Chicago's dying interest in either of its newspapers.

The most dead-on post I've ever read on this site. My dad's been a Trib subscriber for 30+ years and he told me he'd be canceling immediately upon seeing this news confirmed. What an awful, awful train wreck.

I'm sure the guys at the Sun-Times will remind everybody about that quote. Repeatedly. For as long as Jay works at the Trib.

Plenty of people may cancel their subscriptions once the new-look Trib debuts. And if Mariotti arrives with it, make it plenty cubed. It would be like Howard Stern working mornings on the Trib's WGN.

But a lot of people actually LIKE Howard Stern.
