Sometimes it feels like a sociology experiment on here. The anonymity emboldens some people to post things I know they never would say if they were looking people in the eye. But I don't think that is new to the site now.

I think the biggest change here is the how the industry has changed. There is a reason why a lot more former writers / editors post here. I can also understand why that would be a negative for some people.

Sometimes a "troll" is just someone putting you in your place. It can be a public service.

This board lost nothing when Doc's dumbass started the other site.

    Nothing.

I only have two people on Ignore, and both were due to Moderator orders.

I can see occasionally ignoring a poster just for the sake of avoiding the aggravation, but making it a habit almost always says more about the ignorer than the ignorees.

It wasn't just whether the "big names" were shown proper deference.

The "good, bright guy" who no longer posts here, along with a few others, decided that if you didn't agree with them about abortion and gun control, you were a bad person. And, so arguments were no longer isolated to a specific topic.

Then, after savaging GWB -- "shrub" to them, when they were being kind -- for years, suddenly any criticism of Obama was unwarranted, and racist.

They convinced themselves that they were too good for the rest of us.

The board didn't skip a single beat when Doc and his minions left. In fact, it got better.

Wow. Because you don't agree with him/like him/whatever, you put "good, bright guy" in quotes in what can only be seen as a mocking way. Amazing.
I've said the exact same words about you and got taken to task for that as well.
Some of you should be in Guiness in the narrow minds section.

So many people absolutely do not want to be exposed to viewpoints other than their own. It's a sad way to live. Doc is absolutely one of them. A few years ago, a law school acquaintance and I were talking about our University of Chicago experience. We agreed that it was nice to attend a university that at least engaged with conservative legal and economic ideas as if they deserved to be engaged, instead of snidely dismissed out of hand.

Ell Oh Fucking Ell. Get the fuck out of here with this revisionist bullshit. If people want to bash Doc for starting his own place, that's fine, but at least keep it factual.
