Whoa, that hits close to home for more reasons than one. :(

  3. Since I'm going to be revamping my portfolio with all of my clips from the summer and getting a head start on my clips packets (I'll graduate in December), here's a question: how many clips is too many? I understand the need for variety, and that's not an issue. But how many clips would you recommend sending to potential employers?

    2 gamers, 2 features, 1-2 enterprise stories

    boog - solid as hell.

jay - i've always preferred a gamer, two features, two columns and an enterprise piece or two.

  8. Good stuff. Thanks for the advice!

Two columns? I've always heard that you shouldn't send columns because people aren't going to care about your ability to write columns anyway.

I think Tomas was referring to good columns -- that is, ones with a local angle that contain actual reporting, not just blathering on about some national event or issue that doesn't concern your local audience. There's always room for good columns, and showing you have that club in your bag can't hurt.

    thanks, troop. i appreciate it.

and yeah, good local columns are just as important as features ... at least in my book.

Aw hell, Tom, I just sent you a packet of my favorite columns on Brett Favre and steroids in baseball. Am I still hired?
