    It's all Mark Wohlers' fault.

While I've never argued with Spnited much before, JR is another story, and I actually agree with the two of you (I believe JR had something similar). A walk off to win the series is a walk off to win the series, regardless of jersey. The only non-World Series winning homer that should give it a run for it's money is Thompson's. And I'm not even a Jays' fan, was openly and loudly cheering for the Phillies that series.

I'm with spnited on the top three, but Gibson has to be my No. 4 over Puckett.

Gibson's homer was in Game 1 of a 4-1 romp.

    Big fuckin' deal. ::) ::)

    If the baseball gurus here say it's #3, it's #3. :)

Wow five pages, although two were jerseyjacks.

About a decade ago, I was doing a talk with a Grade 2 class, and they started asking me who the biggest jerks in sports. I refused to go there, but you know how boys that age are. They just wouldn't give up, persistent until I finally gave in.

I said, "The two biggest jerks I've ever dealt with are Darrell Walker and Joe Carter."

Carter was hugely popular at the time. Three of the boys burst into tears.

Junk, surely you know there are only two teams in MLB: Yankees and Red Sox.

I don't disagree about the drama of Fisk's or Gibson's but to me, a walk-off home run to win a World Series trumps everything else.

And I still think the Olamar HR off Eckersley in the '92 ALCS is up there.

Yeah, I heard Joe was kind of a jerk but he was one of the greatest colour guys in baseball history. :)

As usual, Junk, we'll agree to disagree

However, we're talking 1992 here. Eck won the Cy Young and MVP--he had 51 saves

Who is this Olamar of whom you speak? Is that one of those funky spellings y'all like to use up there?

Yeah, we change everybody's name when they play up here.

You've heard of Rodger Clements? :)

Oh, please. We're talking about a guy who hit one of only two walk-off home runs in baseball history to win a World Series.

Funny you mention ethnocentrism because by and large Americans figure if it didn't happen in the U.S. it either didn't happen or isn't worth mentioning.
