Apples and andirons. Jeffords felt uncomfortable with the direction his party had taken -- which seems to be the case with a lot of Republicans these days, if the Huck and the reaction to him are indications -- and he became an Independent, caucusing with the Democrats. When they lost the Senate majority, he went with them into minority status. Both in the election and in the subsequent legislature, Lieberman spit repeatedly in the party's eye but never had the guts -- or, if you prefer, the principles -- to become a Republican, thereby forfeiting his seniority and chairmanships.
It isn't apples and oranges, or whatever. It's exactly the same thing. Just because you say something, Fen, doesn't make it so.
So a guy who runs as a Republican and takes their money to get elected, and then turns on them is a righteous guy, but a guy who gets elected as an Independent and acts independently is a traitor? I really feel badly for your spine, Fenian, with all the twisting it is forced to do. Since you obviously live on Fantasy Island, say hi to Mr. Roarke and Tattoo.
And now, the rest of the story. As many suspected, there's a pretty good reason Lieberman isn't supporting a Democrat. None of them wanted his support. http://thinkprogress.org/2007/12/17/lieberman-mccain/
Yup, they needed to stay as far away as possible from something that could be connected to principle.
