John Skipper Reveals . . .

Why should he tell us anything at all? Honest or otherwise?

This story raises some interesting questions about the responsibilities of storytelling, and to whom the truth - or at least a truth - is owed.

I think the only public group with a real interest in, and entitlement to, the truth of this story is Disney stockholders.

This is obviously an interview designed to answer some lingering questions about Skipper's sudden departure.

Which, just to be clear, was a resignation, not a firing. Iger agreed that Skipper should resign. That's an entirely different legal matter than being fired for cause.

ESPN has been Disney's biggest earner for decades. So the unexplained exit of its president is huge news. But the telling of this story is being carefully controlled.

    I wonder why.

Well, I do own some stock in Disney. But that's neither here nor there.

    And yes ...

... but the carefully has gaping holes that opens the door for leapers to ask logical questions.

Perhaps he's just getting out in front of a much bigger story.

THE ONE TIME he screws up is the one time it all comes crumbling down.

I'm sure Clay Travis will get to the bottom of it.

Reading recaps, including the NYT's (written by Deadspinner Kevin Draper), Skipper's mention of missing a plane is humorous to think about.

Imagining him white-knuckling the wheel like Henry Hill and he got to the airport late, or he was so blitzed and said fuckit, not today.

After a pretty hard 12-hour bender one night I stuck with the plan to go cover a triathlon at 7 in the morning. That was difficult.

So if he was a liberal icon would it be OK to tweet he was lying? You really don't think Skipper is full of shit? If it was just coke all he had to do was tell the company he had a problem and needed help. Unless he was drug tested and failed his story is most definitely bs. If you fail the drug test, most companies can fire you. If you go to the employer and say you have a problem and they respond by firing you have a reason to sue.

Solid self-reflection. Be sure to keep making shit up about strangers.

For what it's worth, I've never met or spoken to John and have no reason to think he knows I exist.

It's not OK to call somebody a liar without better proof than Travis has. Is it permissible? Yep. It's hard to prove a libel claim, and it should be. But this represents a level of irresponsibility that no reputable news organization would tolerate.
Travis is playing to his SEC football fan base, and he's desperately trying to impress Fox News.

OK. We'll see how Skipper's lawsuit turns out. I'm sure Travis called him a liar just because he didn't like him or agree with him. No way he ever witnessed or knew people who witnessed Skipper do more than just coke.

As I said, there will be no lawsuit. Depositions et al.
Travis has built a fan base by hammering on ESPN's liberal nature. Any chance he gets to bash them, he will take because he knows it means clicks. So far, he has no grounds to make a professional, responsible claim that Skipper is guilty of sexual harassment.

Yes, I doubt he has video evidence. But I'd bet anything if it wasn't him, there are others who witnessed Skipper do more than just coke. Not saying sexual harassment, but if you think he is apologizing to his wife for just doing coke that's pretty funny.
