I sat through that show last night with my wife, who LOVES it. I don't get it. At all.

    Kate's a B, but pretty damn hot. Jon's a douche.

Taking a weekend off? Nah. Don't think so. I don't care how much you hate your wife, you don't leave her with 8 kids while planning a huge birthday party. Ever. He needs to be punched in the face. Someone get Doyle on the phone.

And it's amazing to me that so many people really care about what's going on in their lives. Just because they have 8 kids? Meh. That got old four years ago.

    Awful show.

The kids' birthday is May 10. The birthday was about 10 days later. So Jon did not miss their birthday - he was absent for the planning of the TLC-produced, Kate-choreographed birthday party. What the fuck ever, if you're Jon and you're pissed that the cameras are in your home.
I've watched the show since pretty much the beginning with Mrs. Appgrad05. To us, the show has always been about the kids. It was 30 minutes of escapism, after my two stepsons (13 and 9) went to bed. You laughed at what they said and remarked how cute they were (are).

As Mrs. Wretch pointed out, there were no other family members at the TLC version of the birthday party. She wondered if the grandparents and other close friends attended the non-filmed party. And that by doing a staged birthday party, the show is no longer a glimpse into the "real life" of a family with eight kids.

Even so, who takes the weekend off and leaves their wife with 8 kids? I'm sorry, but if you have 8 kids, you need to realize that you just can't take off for days at a time.

Now, if they both want some time away from the kids, fine. Hire a sitter or three.

Still, they're both a couple of big, stinky douches.

I doubt Kate was at home with the eight kids. For one, she had a camera crew with her. And they have help. Off-camera help, to preserve the idea that they are really raising all of them by themselves, but off-camera help nonetheless.
Shit, there might have been more adults in that home than children.

If Kate's taking off all the time for book tours and to hook up with the bodyguard, then Jon deserves some space sometimes, too. Hell, Kate didn't even spend Mother's Day with the kids.

I'm amazed with how dysfunctional this family has become. For the kids' sake, I hope the show comes to a screeching halt.

Even worse, pawing the kids off on the camera crew. Nice.

And I agree with beanpole to a point. At least Kate was out making money for the family. Where was Jon during his weekend off? Banging randoms?

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying Kate is in the clear and Jon is the ONLY douche. They both are and not a single part of me feels bad for them for having to go through whatever it is they're going through. They made their bed.

Funny about the moms at the party ... I was wondering if, when their kids got their invites, they wanted to go just to see for themselves what this train wreck of a family is like?

Doesn't Jon still have a job? If he does work, I can understand him wanting a weekend off. Not that that excuses him actually taking the weekend off, though.

13 years from now, I can picture TLC bringing the kids back for their own reality show, where they spend most of their time in psychotherapy.

Unfortunately, the show coming to a halt wouldn't stop the dysfunction, which long ago took on a life of its own. It'll just be less visible.

They also don't do their own housework or cooking, except for while the cameras are rolling. I'm not buying in to the story they were trying to spin on camera.
