Less than a year later, Poin appears to have nailed it ...

Jon is going to "bone it like he owns it" to everything that moves.

It appears that the split was over Jon not wanting to be on the teevee anymore and Kate wanting to be on the teevee all the time.
    More or less.
This show could go on forever — Kate plus her new friend who isn't Jon, plus 8.
    Kate Dates, plus 8
Kate seeks new mate, plus 8
Kate hooks up with jail bait, plus 8
    Kate tempts fate, plus 8
    Kate's Late, plus 9
    Kate and Nate, plus 9

  4. I know based on this thread I'll be in the minority on this one, but ...

How can anyone not feel that Jon is a complete douchebag?
Yeah, Kate's a bitch. No shit. News at 11. (Because the wife watches it religiously) I've been watching this show for a long time, and Kate's always been a bitch. It's a safe bet she was a bitch when he married her.

All of a sudden now, after 10 years and 8 kids who are still so young that this will 100 percent screw them up, you decide it's time to take your ball and go home?

While discussing the utter destruction of his family, dude actually used the word 'excited.'

Punk-out, plain and simple. If you ask me (and I know you didn't), as big a bitch as Kate can be, she's only the second biggest on the show.
(And no, I'm not talking about Mady.)

Actually, if they're going to get divorced, it's better to do it while they're young. The older the kids are, the harder it's going to be for them to accept change within their family. Same reason having them on TV right now won't screw them up down the road. The memories they do have will be so fuzzy that they won't know if they're real or fake.

I think you're pretty spot-on here, though I have no interest in ranking Jon and Kate based on douchebagginess. It only seems he's less a douche because he's less aggressive, but yeah dude, this is sorta what you signed up for. Maybe you didn't expect eight kids and a wife who grew more overbearing with each TV season, but sheesh.

Not surprising, Kate seemed to be upset about the divorce because it's going to make HER look bad. She rarely if ever says anything good about Jon, who even said tonight he would always love her. Jon's a doofus for sure, but the man deserves better.

Prediction: Kate gets remarried first and it happens within a year.

Maybe he didn't expect years of TV. He's always seemed to have the kids' interest in mind, in that he thinks it's now starting to become too much and it's time to end it. But Kate doesn't want the money train to end. What will they do when Emeril won't come over any more and they can't afford to have a bus to drive them everywhere? So now he's trapped, and he sees his family falling apart.

Not excusing the cheating. At all. But the partnership has seemed to be one-sided for some time now.

Yeah, I can also agree with that. Somewhere along the line, her personality shifted, and she's now fixated on the show and fame it provides. That's probably not a rift easily bridged. Actually, my sister watches the show pretty religiously and remembers an early season episode in which Kate asked Jon to go shopping with her, because she didn't know what to buy. Pretty hard to imagine that now.

I don't think it's the fame that hooked her. I think it's all the money and free stuff. When they're filming, they don't have to pay for a thing. Free trips, free plastic surgery, free clothes, free Crooked Houses.

That said, she is a royal bitch. But Jon is a king douchebag too.

I feel sorry for the kids. But at least their therapists will have video evidence to help understand why they're so F'ed up.

  11. I won't go all the way with you on one-sidedness or Kate jonesing for Emeril-esque freebies, but I do agree that it seems that what fanned these flames (not created, but certainly fanned) is Kate's insistence the show go on while Jon clearly did not want that at the end of last season.

Neither of their hands are clean on this. I just don't agree with all the "Kate's a bitch, woe is Jon" posts in this thread. Dude's effed up plenty, and to blame his transgressions on his wife is a complete copout.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't most of those from before when the cheating came out? When he just seemed so put-upon? I still feel bad for anyone who gets browbeaten that badly, but I think a lot of the sympathy for him came from before all his dirty laundry got aired.
