I don't know why I didn't bring this up before in this thread but I've been distracted. Anyway, all of my writing that has received any kind of mainstream attention has been NBA-related so it's not like anything I've written has actually mattered in the grand scheme of things. Nevertheless, I've received an actual death threat against myself and one of my children because of things I've crafted into pixels. I brought the local police into my situation but I was informed that they really couldn't do anything until I was actually murdered, which put me in a tight spot.

Choosing to be somebody who publishes their opinions in a public space is, in a certain way, inviting crazy people to come up with a reason to murder you. I know that sentence doesn't make logical sense, but I've been putting my thoughts online in one form or another for 15 years and I've determined that the only way to escape the crazies is to stop exposing myself to them. My obsession and ego won't allow me to do that, so if I end up on the wrong end of a gun barrel one day, I'll be disappointed but I won't be surprised. People saying bad things about me and my family stopped registering with me on my outrage meter a long time ago.

 

Wow, I've never come across your work, but you must have strong opinions. That must have been an ordeal for your family.

With all the crazy people out there, it's surprising that so many writers have taken to twitter to render opinions that surely will not make many friends.

I happen to think that the Internet has brought people together. And anything that is put on the Internet should be respected as someone's opinion or well-reasoned views. In fact, we should all put as much personal information on the Internet as possible. And when people say mean things about the personal things we post, they are showing the least amount of class that a person can show, and we should be completely shocked that anyone would possibly do that.

I am none of those things, and I didn't attempt any instance of some kind of "DEFENDING!!!!!" of Your Gawker Foes in my post.

On another note: Why is it that everyone who tries to take a run at me has such poor sources regarding my career, such as it is?

But I did rather enjoy this post. May use it in the future. Illustrates a few points I make somewhat regularly in my actual life.
