I figured that if Jones and McGrath both thought that it was important enough to put a description of building in lede, that it would be ok to comment on the stark differences in their observations.

As a reader am I not suppose to focus on that level of detail in a story? If you noticed, I did not question the right or wrong of the observation. As a reader and also someone who has spent a lot of time in that area, I found it interesting that 2 writers could view the building in such different ways.

As far as the overall stories both were very good reads. Many of the anecdotes were the same, but I liked that Jones included more about the overall process and spoke with more of Knopf folks.

I'm about to hack out a feature and had SBOV's post on profile writing bookmarked. Saw the post was taken down and almost took it out on the copy desk. All of those posts will surely be missed. Can't wait for when Jones is at the Mayborn Conference this summer.

Be sure to debate the building.

    And quote Boom's incisive comments.

    Talk about irrelevant nonsense.

Love the passion Jones has for writing, and will miss SOBV. As far as his persona on here, he's one of the ultra-talented 'stars' who doesn't act as if he's above it all — and we all know at least a few who believe they are — and I can respect that. I also like hearing what Jones has to say about his stories, the process, etc.

What's irrelevant is you jr. Have a look
at my posts on story and show me where
I was critical of Jone's work.
I just thought that it was interesting that
two different writers had different opinion
    on building

When did Boom become William Carlos Williams?

Jesus, every time you post I wonder if English is your first language. I never said you were critical of Jones' work.

In the context of the two stories, their opinions---not descriptions--of the building are entirely irrelevant.

I disagree, JR. When you traffic in magazine writing, tiny details are important. That's why they're written about. Now, the descriptions are opinion. No one was wrong. But they color my opinions of Caro and the writers.

jr i've been posting here for almost 10 years, if you have not figured out by now that my lack of grammatical training does not bother me, then you never will.

I guess it was clear enough for you to understand since you keep referring to my posts.

Again -- my post was a simple one just pointing out that both writers described the building in a completely different manner.
I found it interesting but I did not feel that it detracted from the quality of either story, which by the way were both
    excellent.

It really seemed like you were just out to fuck with him.

Don't you think that if I wanted to fuck with him that I might have questioned his opinion of building, which I did not.

Again, I just found it interesting that two elite magazine would come away with two totally different opinions on a building.
