Get ready to flame away everyone ...

What Josh Hancock did was obviously as stupid as it can get. My reaction is much like Moddy's, I feel awful for his family, who get dragged in the mud by proxy because of Hancock's stupid act.

And Thank God he didn't take anyone with him. We've probably all seen drunk drivers on the road and it's scary as hell sharing the road with them. And we're the lucky ones who were able to drive away, most of us also probably know someone who died, or God forbid, took someone else's life either by driving drunk themselves or being hit by a drunk driver.

All that said, some of the posts on here who refer to Hancock as a "piece of garbage", etc., are a bit much.

The second stupidest mistake anyone can make is one that takes their life (the worst being one that takes someone else's life), and while I'm not overflowing with sympathy, nor can I get on my judgmental high horse and call Hancock a piece of shit over it.

For all I know, Hancock was a nice guy who did something awesomely stupid. Or maybe he was a piece of shit. I don't know, and presumably, neither do anyone of you.

He fucked up. Big time. It's tragic and lucky that he didn't kill anyone else. But I'm content to leave it at that without figuartively pissing on his grave too.

He fucked up two nights earlier. And learned nothing from it. A bong, a cell phone and over-boozed. And he's driving to *another* bar, to get tanked up more.

Fuck him. He was a menace to society and I'm glad he's gone. It was a matter of time before someone was killed, I'm glad it was him, not a mother, like the woman whose car met Leonard Little's.

If you drink and drive on public roads, you are a fucking asshole, IMO.

Bubbler, you said exactly what I was thinking. Thanks for putting it in words...

The only issue I have with the whole fiasco is a guy like Tim Hudson wearing his college teammate's initials like he died nobly and truly accidentally. I'm sorry the man is dead. But, please honor your drunk driver a different way.

    Enough said.

Dean Wormer tried to warn Hancock--"Fat, drunk and talking on your cell phone is no way to drive your SUV son...."

That is a brutal fucking picture. Can you imagine that poor girl's feeling when she got to look in the mirror for the first time?

I hope it haunts everyone - DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE. DO NOT THINK 'I AM OK.' IF YOU HAVE BEEN DRINKING, DO NOT FUCKING DRIVE. ONE SIP. DO NOT FUCKING DRIVE. THE LIFE YOU SAVE MAY BE MINE.

Yes, I'm shouting. I fucking hate drunk driving.

I don't know why people would flame away, Bubbler.

But I do take a harsher view. This isn't one of this mistakes like forgetting to put the toilet seat down or locking the keys in the car or even forgetting an anniversary.

Getting behind the wheel, shit-faced, en route to another bar -- while talking on the cell phone, no less -- is showing a blatant disregard and disrespect for every human life in your wake.

And yes, I think doing this says everything about the man's character.

    Or lack thereof.

It is existentially equivalent to throwing rocks off of a freeway overpass.

And yeah, I used to do it. (If you repeatedly drive drunk, you are an alcoholic. period.)

Anyone who thinks back fondly of their drunk driving exploits is an utter douchebag.

Heartbreaking, haunting, deplorable, all of it is. It comes to you in your dreams and waking thoughts. You had a chance to stop that dude that night and you didn't do it. Makes you active.

Fuck drunk drivers. In my work, it's a firable offense. No questions asked. You comply or you take the train. But it should be even harsher than that.
