As somebody noted on one of the threads, drunk driving is far more legitimate felony than simple drug possession.

I hope someone has the balls to ask him to apologize.

He was a warped, mixed-up guy.

One thing I thought I picked up from that surveillance tape.... wasn't the towtruck actuallu in the left-hand lane, or was Hancock driving on the shoulder?

I think it was the former.

If so, the kid could have been stone sober and still been greased.

It's been said before: Nobody ever died Driving While Stoned.

I've driven that stretch. Like most roads, I think there's a left lane for such emergencies.

But hey, if that doesn't tip you off, the flashing lights might, d'ya think?
It's relatively straighforward and open going down a slight hill at that point.

    So do I.

Dooley joked that I was the designated driver in the "What do you bring to the SportsJournalists.com table?" thread. Little did he know he's not far off (or maybe he does know).

Drinking cost me my father and a messy, messy divorce. I'm too young to remember much, but I'll pretty much put up my Carolina Panthers and Carolina Hurricanes gear - and throw in Moddy's Nats hats - that he drove while drunk. Probably more than once.

It's a big reason I'll at least occasionally hang out with co-workers after putting the section to bed - to make sure they don't get behind the wheel after getting plastered.

A colleague at my last stop did it once - after I asked him if he was OK. I knew he wasn't, but an old friend from home was in for the weekend and he was fronting for him.

He got back to the apartment complex just fine. But I knew he wasn't completely sober. One of the few times I've been pissed off at one of the most easy-going guys I've had the pleasure to be around. We've both moved on, yet we still keep in touch.

Thank you and back to your regularly scheduled Josh Hancock updates ... already in progress.

    Huh?

    I wouldn't agree with that.

The Cardinals have now banned alcohol from their clubhouse, which is a very predictable knee-jerk reaction.

    It is also a fraud.

If the Cardinals wanted to really make a stand and were really concerned about drinking and driving, they'd stop selling alcohol in their stadium because I would presume far more fans leave the games every night drunk out of their mind than players and/or coaches.

Of course, that would mean forfeiting big bucks and we all know that when owners are asked to put their money where their mouth is, they usually rationalize their way out of it.

Stupid question here - Aren't the Cardinals still owned by the Busch family?

Driving drunk is more dangerous than HAVING black-tar heroin.

During my young and dumb days, I drove home drunk a few times and stoned a few times. Once after a night of smoking something, I woke up in my room at my parents' house. I had no idea how I got home. My car was parked neatly in the driveway. My buddy said I just took off. To this day, I have no recollection of how I got home.

Driving drunk is very, very stupid. I remember the first time I tried it, it was only for a half mile or so. But I remember thinking, "Damn, this is tough." And I was driving about 15 mph the whole time.

Haven't tried to drive after drinking since college. It helps having a DD every time I drink, but if I was ever in a pinch, I'd walk or even find the nearest hotel before I'd try driving drunk. I was lucky back in my young days. I would have deserved any fate I could have received, whether it was a night in jail or killing myself in a wreck.

I feel for the family and friends of Hancock. But I have a hard time feeling sympathy for him.
