his parents, grandparents, friends, teammates, etc., would disagree.

hey, i'm a big 'to each his own' guy but not wearing a seatbelt is fucking moronic. i was stunned into silence when i was interning at the prosecutor's office a few summers ago and my boss and i took a ride in a cop car to check out a crime scene. both cops actually called me a pussy for wearing my seat belt and said true cops don't wear seat belts. um, wtf?

that said, the drunk driving is far worse than the absence of a seat belt.

and if i were walt jocketty i'd sit down with larussa and have a serious talking-to about what comes out of his mouth.

They said he was talking to a woman he was meeting at another bar. The report said they were talking and then there was silence. I could only imagine what drunken rambling was going on.

So, what's .157 in terms of the number of drinks?

If you're dumb enough to drink and drive you're not going to put on your seat belt. And it woulnd't have helped in this case.

I wonder if LaRussa and the Cards (and other baseball teams who do the same thing) should be accountable in some way for covering up for him in the earlier incident(s?) instead of getting the guy some obviously needed help. Head in the sand doesn't help anybody.

In scientific terms, it's considered "a shitload".

Rough guide. 1 drink equivalent ( beer 12oz, 1 1/2 oz liquor, 5 oz wine) equals .02 . The body burns off 1 drink equivalent an hour. Do the math to get to .157

Let's be clear, the .157 would have gone higher, and he likely would have gotten behind the wheel again later in the night. He was already lit and driving to another bar for more according to reports.

Drunk, marijuana in the vehicle, no seat belt and talking on the cell phone.

    Yikes.

Between the BAL, cell phone, marijuana, and speeding.... that's got to be the unsafest condition to drive in short of wearing a blindfold. I'm sorry he died, but man alive.

Math was never my favorite subject, but I'd say that means he drove after drinking about 10 beers in two hours. That certainly is enough for someone to know when they're playing with fire. I had pretty good luck in my day, but it only takes one tow truck in the road.

Can't compare the two, other than they both play in St. Louis. Leonard is still doing what he loves (though he still gets stopped for DUI from time to time.) The person he hit (I believe it was a woman) is dead.

As others have said before, the only saving grace here is that he didn't take anyone with him.
