Good God, people...drunk, speeding, talking on the cell, marijuana in the car and you're all talking about why the moron wasn't wearing a seat belt?
The seat belt would not have saved him. It is of no consequence in this story.

Re: new story on Hancock - wow

Drunk driving should be a felony. It is exponentially more dangerous and criminal, in every sense, than mere possession of ANY narcotic.

First, the argument that a seat belt wouldn't have helped is completely true. However, the fact that there are still people out there who don't believe in wearing is still very much an issue that needs to be addressed.

And Leo, your point about cops not wearing belts is all too true. Just check out the Officer Down Memorial Page and take a gander at how many cops die in accidents simply because they weren't wearing seatbelts. Good grief, guys, set a better example.

  4. When I drink and smoke and drive while not wearing a seat belt, I NEVER talk on my cell phone. It's called being responsible!

Calm down, spnited. The guy should have been wearing a seat belt. Maybe it wouldn't have saved his life in this instance, but it was one of the several monumentally stupid decisions he made to put himself at risk. Nobody's saying it was the most important element of the story, but it's certainly worth mentioning.

Alley, I'm not debating the seat belt issue in general.
But in this instance, given Hancock's litany of offenses, it not only is moot it's trivial.

Are we at free will to jest at the situation now that Hancock proved to be an idiot?

No because he's still dead, moron.

Being sober might have helped him.
I feel for his family, I really do. Their pain only increases.
But, yeah, I have a hard time feeling sympathy for him. Drunk driving is one of my big bugaboos. I've told my kids that's one call they never want to make, to tell me they were arrested for DUI. If you take a SIP, don't fucking drive.

Guess we haven't moved on to the kinder, gentler era at SportsJournalists.com just yet. :D

A lot of people have MR.
Mayfly, however, has yet to move past junior high mentality.

I disagree. I think it helps to show the make-up of an athlete thinking he's bulletproof.
