Interview with the survivor of the shooting, Vicki Gardner. This is a pretty remarkable lady.

A word of caution. In these interviews, there are a few still photos from the shooting videos, but nothing graphic like the front of the NYDN. And, well, it's Fox and you have to put up with Greta, but in my opinion, this is worth watching.

    Part one:

Part two, which includes an interview with the husband:

Vicki's recovery facebook page is at:

She was released from the hospital several days ago, and the Smith Mountain Lake community organized a flotilla of boats to cruise by the Gardner's house to welcome her home and spread get well wishes. Those photos are on the FB page.

Hey Greta, was this shooting done on live television? I couldn't tell from your intro to the interview ...

This has been brewing for a while.

Chris is a good dude and, while I don't know the specifics of his district, I imagine that being a Democrat running in 2018 will be better than most of the recent midterm climates.

Public office is a natural transition out of the TV news business - provided that you're truly willing to never get back in. Name recognition, comfort with speaking and, likely, you've covered the issues.

He'll be running in the red part of Virginia though, and favoring gun control. If he were runnng in the Tidewater areas or NoVa, he'd have a much better chance.

Very true but if he has a middle of the road district (possible if it's inside Roanoke), he'll probably do pretty well. I'm sure he's studied this. I know I wouldn't leave a 100k/year gig to win 41% in some district.

No clue what the district is like, but wonder if it takes in Blacksburg as well? Even more than the average college town, that's likely a place willing to consider a point of view other than guns uber alles.

The number of voters in Blacksburg would never be enough to turn Southwest Virginia toward a liberal issue. I don't even know if a poll of Blacksburg would show it to be pro gun control anyway. Even with the history.
