Well, it is fair to observe that such feelings are hypocritical when they are selective in memory and observation. Many of these folks would hold Reagan as a business hero, and then, like you, blast Democrats (and only Democrats, not the likes of Palin) for lacking business experience.
By the way, it's absurd to try to paint the picture of Reagan as having business experience because he was a spokesman. For God sake, that makes the guy who plays the gecko an expert on car insurance. And if a democrat is president of the screen actor's guild, that would be seen as a "labor" tie, largely political in nature. And that would be a fair observation. Yet, for Reagan, you count it as business experience.

Selective perception. Of course, by noting that, you'll paint me as "leftist" media, ha.

I would argue against NPR being, in general, inaccessible and, as someone else called them, esoteric. But they do go nerdy on you quite often. Of course, this story fits into their leftist give-all-white-male-power-structure-pigs-a-pumpkin agenda.

Look, I was trying to explain to folks the reason many on the right have issues with elites.

You brought up Reagan -- who would never be confused with an elitist -- not me.

But, I think it's clear that you are entirely unfamiliar with Reagan's employment with GE. We wasn't just an actor who appeared in commercials.

Still think that's the same as the Gecko actor?

Also, Reagan was a month short of his 56th birthday when he was sworn in as the Governor of California. Other than his military service, it was the first government job the guy had ever held.

He wasn't an academician. He didn't spend the majority of his life drawing a government paycheck. He didn't grow up dreaming of becoming President like Kennedy, Clinton, or Obama.

His dream was to run the best damn sporting goods department in the Montgomery Ward department store chain: http://tinyurl.com/29pgtmu

Lucky for us, he didn't get the job.

You can keep trying to compare him to Obama. It will only get worse. Reagan stands so much taller it's not even funny.

And as a beloved former poster also noted: he largely served out WWII at the Brown Derby.

You're right. When it comes to racking up massive national debt, Barack Obama has a long way to go.

Quite an accomplishment to triple a nation's debt in just eight years.

President Obama also has a lot of work to do with raising taxes. After Reagan realized supply-side economics weren't worth a damn he had to raise taxes. Twice.

I never said he was a war hero. I only mentioned his service because I would surely have been corrected if I said he had never held a government job before being elected Governor.

But, I'll bet he learned more about, and respected military service and culture more, than our current President (or Clinton who "loathed the military") did before becoming Commander in Chief.

History will serve Reagan well . One of the things that he did better than most was work across the aisle. He had strong bond with Tip O'Neil that served the country well.

I've been reading his diary and it's clear that he had a much better grasp of the world than many realized. What he also had was a big picture vision that he never wavered from.

Look, your guys needs to stop being compared to Carter before you try to compare him to Reagan.

If he survives that competition, he can advance to the round of 43 and face off against Buchanan, or maybe Hoover.

He has a long way to go before he has a chance to face off against Reagan.

    Never said you did. But.

He surely respected many of the Daddy Warbucks types who helped lift him into the saddle.

    No paper tigers, please.

    The guy could write.

People should read his speeches. I challenge any of the women of SportsJournalists.com to read some of his love letters to his wife & try to tell me that they wouldn't cherish even one letter like them from their husband:

Maybe they wouldn't win an NPR contest, but they're good.

People love the whole Reagan is dumb, Bush is dumb, Palin is dumb meme. And we're supposed to believe that Clinton, Gore, and Obama are geniuses.

Do your own homework folks. It's not that simple.

    "Your guys"?

Who said I was a Democrat? I am not registered with either major party, and have voted for three parties in presidential elections.

But Ronald Reagan was not a great president, unless you happened to be rich.

EDIT: I added to this post, but decided to re-post the addition later in the thread.
