Ike and Tina's version is so much better than CCR's. Not even close.

Flip a coin. For me, the sheer ragged-throated power of Lennon's vocal on "Money" wins, but they are both among the songs that formed the foundation of my musical tastes. "Money" was the last song they recorded during the "With the Beatles" session. They held it because that they knew that John would blow his throat out on it. IIRC they only did two takes.

Are you sure that's Money and not Twist and Shout? Lennon (from what I read) was sick as a dog when they did Twist and Shout and they only did two takes.

A couple songs I recently learned were covers -- and were boosted by the '80s style -- Mickey by Toni Basil and Tainted Love by Soft Cell

I like the Johnny Cash version of “Hurt” better than the Nine Inch Nails original.

Could be. My memory is not what it once was, and I didn't look it up.

Fuckit, I still pick Money, although both tracks are... money. <grin>

Had no idea on Mickey. The original is definitely ... Something. It’s definitely something. Sounds like they were trying to sound like a cross between Elvis Costello and J Geils.

"America" is one of my favorite Simon and Garfunkel songs.

But the prog-rock version by Yes tops it. A completely reworked version from their early-1970s prime.
