Is there only one guy that will be on the ballot to challenge Walker, or are there several?

If there are a bunch, Walker might win because the others will split their votes.

    Very true.

I believe there are four Democrats, though only two big names. Big ones are Kathleen Falk, former Exec. of Dane County, and Milwaukee mayor Tom Barrett, who lost to Walker in the race for Gov.

State unions really want Falk to win and challenge Walker. I'm not sure whether Falk or Barrett would have the better chance to beat Walker.

I'm not quite sure why a recall election ends up as a one v. the other scenario. Surely it should be a yes or no question, followed, if necessary, by an election to replace the person recalled.

When California did it, there were, what, 137 candidates? So there was more than one choice to those who voted against the incumbent governor. This would seem to conflate two questions, "do you want the governor recalled?" and "which of these two do you prefer?"

Unless I am misreading what is going on in Wisconsin the questions are separate.

The question whether to recall has already been answered with a resounding yes. The recall has been ordered.

Next step is a primary May 5. Winner of the primary faces Walker June 8.

At least the process in Wisconsin is orderly with primaries instead of California with the recall question and then a large list of candidates that doesn't include the incumbent.

That's just the petition to recall, isn't it? If he'd been recalled, he wouldn't be governor any more. Or so goes my understanding of it.

Yes, it's just a petition, the governor isn't recalled unless he loses.

So yeah, that's my point. The recall should be yes/no. No shouldn't be just one other candidate. Stacks the deck in favor of the one facing the recall.

Did Davis run in the California recall election? I'm pretty sure he didn't.

He couldn't. He tried to get on the ballot, though.

I thought it was that you voted for or against him, and if you voted against, you then chose from the 137 candidates or whatever it was.

Or you voted for one of those candidates either way. Can't remember.
