Casty, from all I can tell, it just bolds people's names when they log in in the 'who's online' area, and there will be a notation. 240 guests, 48 members (1 buddy).

and to add someone to your buddy list, you just go to your profile and click on edit buddies. and put in the username.

 

OR go to their profile and click on 'add to buddy list.'

 

Or in IJAG's case, it might be easier to bold the people who aren't "buddies," or else the members list would be a sea of bold
