OK, which has nothing to do with what I bolded.

You saw a handful of people sing the old words (I can't speak to it, I didn't DVR it). That translates to "many" Kentuckians "prefer"ring the old lyrics?

No, no. This has nothing to do with Mine That Bird.
The other horse was not nominated for the Preakness way back when. It can still be entered -for a $100,000 supplemental fee.

Devil, this may have been one of the better performances of all time. As someone noted, passing 15 horses in the final quarter is very impressive. One of is key to this. Secretariat by 31 after a 1:09 first 3/4 is somewhat amazing.
But greatest race? No. Affirmed-Alydar is just a starting point.

I had no money down and can't claim that I would have any down on the winner. I think you can start the Andy Warhol clock on the winner. This is not a very impressive crop.

Freisan Fire grabbed a quarter -- AND bled. Explains a good deal. He wouldn't have beaten the
winner, the way the race was run, but with a clean trip he would have likely hit the board.

And don't forget, it might have been a different race altogether if I Want Revenge hadn't been scratched the morning before the race.

I don't know how much people are paying attention to the dudes who own Mine That Bird, but they are totally awesome. The trainer and the owners told reporters today they'd been friends for 25 years, and when someone asked how their friendship started, Mark Allen sheepishly admitted that he started a bar fight once, was losing, and Chip Woolley helped him out. I wonder if Bob Baffert has ever been in a bar (wine bars do not count), much less a bar fight.

Saved by the scratch of I Want Revenge. The best horse at Churchill Downs this week was the filly.

Likely the best 3-year-old, for certain. Be interesting when Dunkirk grows into himself, but that'll
    take time and care.

Interesting that the Derby winner was foaled 5/10/06. In reality, he's not three years old, yet.

Heard this morning that a woman at the local race track bet $100 across the board on Mine That Bird. I haven't done the math, but that sounds like somewhere between as $7-8K haul.
How did she come up with the winner? A friend of hers had a dream that the 8 horse was going to win the Derby. Oy vey.

    $100 across paid ...

    $5,162.50 + $2,700 + 1,290 = $9,152.50

i hear you. however, i got the story from someone in track management, not from some down-on-their-luck stooper. i believe it's accurate.
