The Freep broke it with Jeff Taylor, who I think was the investigative guy at the time, and the prep-guy-forever Mick McCabe.
IIRC, The Dwarf had McCabe on his radio show after that and starting bitching at McCabe, saying things like "I was around those guys more than you and I never saw anything like that."

Well open your eyes, you suck up, start being a journalist and stop being a fiction book writer.

A friend who was at the Freep in 2005 told me that Albom's Final Four story is about a 3 on a scale of 1-10 on what he's gotten away with at that place. He said the only difference was this time he got caught.

How did he get caught by the way?

When an investigation reveals there was "no pattern of deception," does that mean the suspect perpetrated the crime at irregular intervals?

    Yee-hah.

The calibre of obfuscation/deflection we've seen here by Mitch's quasi-defenders
is right up there with the W kissups who didn't have anything except obfuscation/deflection.

There are journalists, here. Obfuscation/deflection doesn't cut it.

I had to cover a Lions game several years ago. Every table in the press box dining area was packed, except one. The one where Mitch sat all by himself.

Lupica is hated by many, but still has tons of friends. The same can be said about Whitlock, Simers, LeBatard and some of the other guys who made their share of enemies over the years.

Albom is by far the most hated sportswriter in the country by his peers.

What a silly and arbitrary code.

    And patently absurd, too.

On the other hand, well after my original post on the subject, the idea that the people at the line editing and production level probably never considered screwing with a Mitch Albom column of any kind is well taken.

I'm pretty sure the whole Joe Bob Briggs scandal that ultimately led to his demise at the Dallas Times Herald (I'm pretty sure it wasn't the Morning News) was a product of Joe Bob pushing the envelope time and time again and being praised for it, and when he finally crossed it, the copy editors didn't know what to think anymore and approved it.

Not exactly the same, but similar.

I agree with you. The suits aided and abetted. They knew exactly what Mitch was doing.

When people quickly realized that the op-ed section isn't live on Saturday nights. It didn't take long for the excrement to hit the Westinghouse.
