    craggs - more overwrought gas.

okay, nobody likes albom. he's pompous and too clever by a half. fair enough.

but he's not corrupt. he's not on the take. that's the capital crime - not 'plagiarism or fiction'. sorry for injecting perspective here.

roger kahn wrote in 'the era' that dick young and his sports editor were on the take from walter o'malley in the 50s.

anybody who ever took a free ticket to a game - for yourself, family or friends - that's worse than what albom did.

Henry, if we were still arguing about whether or not Albom should keep his job, you might have a point. But we are not.

Plagiarism and fiction are not capital crimes in journalism? Really?

it's the difference between murder and assault-and-battery. is that so hard?

So getting your wife a free ticket to the game is murder then?

    F for Fake

My friend Dave Kindred has more fundamental integrity than anyone else I know in this business. He also loves this business far more than it ever has deserved to be loved. So when he sounds the hogwash alarm, it behooves all of us to listen.

This may be inside baseball. None of you may care. Tough. As I said from the start, this is my blog. You don't like what's in it? Start your own blog. For the Associated Press Sports Editors to sanctify fraud with that organization's highest honor, and for the recipient then to preach sanctimoniously about a craft that he disgraced, makes me weep for this business. We have something of an obligation to police ourselves. In that spirit, I associate This Blog with every word Dave Kindred wrote.

I'm not sure why reporting accurate information for the wrong reason is the greatest sin. I would say knowingly reporting inaccurate information is. But that's just me.
