Queue the "Price is Right" horn. Have a fine time in prison, son.

But I gotta ask: What's up with the roomate? They find her with blood pooling around her head and think "alcohol poisoning"? Are they not too bright there in C'ville?

They're plenty bright in C'ville. Maybe a lot of alcohol was scattered around the room. Maybe her rommate thought Love fell down and hit her head while intoxicated. Maybe the roommate was drunk at 2am. Maybe the last thing she expected to find in her apartment was a murder victim. There are a million scenarios.

I think at this point we should disregard the alcohol stuff almost entirely. Maybe there was puke all over the room or something but it was part of the call to police, not the investigation. Maybe the roommate was drunk or maybe somebody was a moron. Sort of irrelavant now unless Huguley is going to argue he had help.

I see what you're saying, but I don't know that alcohol is irrelevant in this case. That campus has had more than a few alcohol-related deaths in the past couple of years. Obviously, this is different. And whether or not they were both three sheets to the wind doesn't make her any less of a victim or him any less of a murderer. But if he was drunk off his ass when he did this, I think the alcohol issue remains. It's certainly not the biggest part of this case, but it could end up being relevant. Especially in light of UVA's past.

I think if he was drunk it might take the death penalty off the table.

I'm saying its probably not relavant in the "why did the roommate think she was passed out?" discussion. Not the police investigation.

    Got it.

  8. At 2 a.m. my guess is the roomate never saw her with the lights on. And/or drunk
The cops report said it was pretty obvious she suffered some physical trama and was dead.

    No.
At least it hasn't in Ohio and Texas.

Your post reminds me of a story I read in the Local U newspaper recently about a student death...

Reading this entire passage almost made me want to call the Local U's newspaper and ask how this ran.

Wild, wild speculation on my part... but it could be that an arrest was made so quickly because the kid confessed.

Then maybe they charged murder in anticipation of a plea deal. Prosecutors 'shoot for the moon' all the time.

Or maybe they really and truly think it's murder.

    YGBFKM,

This is really one instance that doesn't have to do with left vs. right. I know you see everything through that prism, but it could be argued that the "left" position in the Duke case was that of "civil libertarian," or give the accused their rights. That is a tricky case to make about liberal or conservative.

Also, a "lefty" would argue that the kid who e-mailed the American Pscyho quote was simply exercising his right to free speech. I happen to agree with that. That kid's family ultimately had to move from their home. While he shouldn't have sent that e-mail, the punishment did not fit the crime.

But again -- some things we argue around here simply don't fit neatly into left vs. right... and it would be really great if you could take a stand outside of that box.

Some things are simply about dooley "misremembering" and/or not backing off his stance. Ever.

Yeah, that pretty much rules out death by rough sex.
