The criminal justice system in this country is in scandalous condition.

Law-abiding onlookers are equally entitled to be disgusted with it and how it's being gamed.

LJB, defending a client is not a gaming of the system. It is our system. What, was Richard Jewell just supposed to not defend himself?

Oh boy.....so much for the levity of my previous post.

Guess who's planning to attend Yeardley Love's funeral?

Fred Phelps and the gang from Westboro. This is from their "picket schedule" - I won't post the link because the url is offensive:

Catherdral of Mary Our Queen 5200 North Charles Street WBC to picket the funeral of Yeardley Love to remind this nation that priests rape boys because Catholics pay them to lie about God and that this nation is doomed for her hatred of the word of God. The Lord caused a young man to murder this young woman, both in the prime of their lives, to show this nation His wrath and repay these people for breaking His commandments.

I hope Yeardley's teammates bring their lacrosse sticks, and use them to put these fuckers in the ground. Bastards.

I'm of the feeling that your teammates better be able to trust you 100 percent of the time. I can't believe they'd want someone like that on their team. Attacking a teammate in his sleep? Unreal.

I agree with what DD says about Dom Starsia. I'm curious to see what happens. If you're the Love family and you learn more and more every day about this asshole's violent tendencies and you learn the school knew about some of them *** I hate to wake up the lawyers around here but how big is THAT lawsuit?

Kevin Blackistone says cancel the season. Thoughts?

    Skimmed it.

Presumably chemistry classes went on after this happened:

This situation is not analogous to the Duke lacrosse case. That's just incredibly lazy writing.

I'm uncomfortable with a argument that leans so heavily on the Duke lax affair to say UVA should end its season. But as I said earlier, it will be beyond awkward if the Cavs win a title, which they might.

If the Loves are okay with them playing on, and they want to play on, I think they should.

If I were UVA, I'd do what it should have done with the Huguely case-- put the 8 players with legal problems before the School Disciplinary Board and suspend accordingly. If those players miss the tournament, that's on them for not self-reporting, which they are required to do according to the University bylaws.

    Don't overreact, and don't under-react. Suspend accordingly.

    A deft solution, Luggie.
