    Fine - compare these lyrics:

    "There's a boy I know, he's the one I dream of
Looks into my eyes, takes me to the stars above."

"True love, you're the one I'm dreaming of
Your heart fits me like a glove
And I'm gonna be true blue, baby, I love you."

Recognize the second set? Yeah, they're from/written by Madonna - who you said would never cede control like Whitney did. Hmmmmmm.

Oh yeah, Madonna's song also came out after Whitney's.

Back to the thinking chair, Dick - again, you don't know what you're talking about.

Madonna's lyrics take place within a relationship.

I think that makes it very different. She's not pining. She's celebrating. I'm not against love songs. Plus, correct me if I'm wrong, but is there any indication that Madonna's lyrics is narrated by an adolescent?

Why am I thinking of Ted Nugent lyrics right now?

That said: Not Madonna's finest artistic hour.

    Why personal again?

Now I'm thinking of Styx lyrics.

I like the sexual empowerment message of Britney Spears.

Doesn't matter, stupid. Not one iota. You said she would never "cede control" in her lyrics, and I proved that she did, with a song that was recorded and released after the song with the lyrics that you found so troubling, in your fake moralizing way.

Done here. I've fed the troll enough for one evening.

Ha. This is why I said in the Houston thread that Madonna and her progeny have their own issues when it comes to this.

Again: Why is this personal to you?

I made an assertion. I have defended it calmly. It may not be an assertion you particularly agree with, but I don't think it's especially outlandish. Adolescents take identity signals from the media they consume.

The personal nature of your vitriol seems out of place to me.

So to reiterate a couple things here:

"True Blue" certainly isn't Madonna's finest hour as an artist. But I think the distinction between "True Blue" and "How Will I Know" is twofold: (1) Houston is narrating from an adolescent's point of view; (2) Madonna's devotional is issued within a relationship, and I think that's an important difference.
