A jury full of college boys? Wife-beaters?

A jury full of people who don't want to believe that a rich white kid is capable of murder.

some factual background to ground us in our quest to take our individual rightious indignation to Def Con 2.

He was a quarterback on his Varsity HS team as well as an All American Lacrosse player.

She went to an All Girls Cathloic Prep school, not some elitist prep school. I know the school. And I know the girls lacrosse community in the area. If you want to make generaliteis, these girls are the best you can ask for. Real student athletes. The Work Hard-Play Hard girls. I've been to tournements where the majority of these girls are doing their homework, studying or assigned readings between games. OF the 30 or so players on a Div 1 Girls Lax team, there are a total of 12 or 13 full scholarships divided up amongst the girls. these are kids who love to play and want to be successful athletes and people. Most Lacrosse players attend Universities where they would qualify for admission had they not played Lacrosse and I'd say that the average SAT score of Lacrosse players is at least the average of scores of non-student athletes

No weapon was used, which mitigates against this being a premeditated act. His absense from the body when it was discovered would indicate that this wasn't just a freak accident, though flight can be explained by fear not just guilt.

"Love" really needs an upper case L in the fourth paragraph.

I think the idea that it's more about class than race is right on. If it had been one of the black girls on the basketball team, some of whom also came from elite private school programs, or one of the Bratton twins, star players on the men's lacrosse team who happen to be black, I think this might be an even bigger story.

  6. I think the pendulum has swung the other way on that.

It's also a convenient, if isolated or rare counter-point, for those who complain about the unfair coverage of black athletes and their off field transgressions. You heard it in Big Ben's case. They recite a long list of black players who have been dealt suspensions and conferences with the commissioner and they (SportsTalk radio and some columnists) say Ben must be treated the same way. There's a difference between fairness and equal (exact) treatment, but too many can't think of the distinction or don't want to dwell on it.

    Bonfire of the Vanities

So Mr. Weiss, your boss, the
    District Attorney -- who dreams
every night that someday he is
going to be mayor of New York City
-- what he needs is a white man.
He needs to find him, book him,
and throw him in jail. Then he
    looks good to everybody. The
press likes it, the voters like
it, even your mother will like it.
You follow me now, Mr. Kramer?

So you go tell your boss, the
    district attorney, Captain Ahab
Weiss that I know he's out there
    looking for the great white
    defendent... but Mr. Williams over
    there is not it.

So they'll grab onto this case and put it on an endless loop so the number of stories equals out in the end.

If I remember what little bit about jury deliberations I learned, it doesn't even have to be a jury full of such people. The jury just has to have one person who refuses to believe it and refuses to go along with a guilty verdict.

Again, I would rather let the facts come out before passing judgment on Huguely. If the facts support first degree murder, then the gloves come off.

He kicked the door in and beat her to death with his bare hands - allegedly of course.

This kid does not have a chance, and I don't care who is on the jury.
