If it had been done right, it might have been submitted. But I guarantee you don't win an Emmy throwing up a 'mug' of a coach over audio.

Please have some clue of what you're talking about, Sonner.

It would be tricky, but I suppose you could do it as long as nothing went wrong. Probably hard to talk in the photog's IFB and get him to fix the shot when he's pretending he's not doing anything.

If you go into every single story thinking about winning an Emmy, you're in the wrong business. And if you're sitting there thinking about winning an Emmy while arguing with the SID and other reporters, you're clearly not right in the head. Pretty sure winning an Emmy was the last thing on their minds. Hope so, anyway.

I see no problem with running the audio with a mug or file footage or something while it plays. Not every time, mind you. But this time.

So when being told you are going to get less information, you should:
    a) not stand-up to say something so you can at least get some information
    b) say something with the risk of not getting any information at all

I posted this on the other thread and was wondering what people thought. The other thread, BTW, had devolved into a let's bash TV people bunch of nonsense.

More simply, If Kiffin had said he wanted no cameras in the room -- TV, print or flip -- but print reporters would have been okay, what the hell do you think would have happened?
I already know, but still curious.

But the shot was pretty much fixed already, and it looked good. The photog did a great job of rolling on the whole pre- exchange. The audio was damn near perfect.

I'm sure you saw the guy give him the 'keep rolling' signal in the YouTube video, heh heh.

Damn... to secretly take a presser live when you've been ordered not to... what a rush that would have been.

And the call the next day from the SID would have been priceless. "Oh, I'm sorry... did you not want me to do that?"

Luggie, Would have been a really wrong move in my opinion. You need that SID for your station's credentials and you'll need him again for other stories.

If you watch the YouTube video, when the first set of conditions included "no live," I believe the SID made a point of saying that if any of them went live anyhow there'd be retribution. I can see taking a stand, but I think you are hurting yourself in the long run and screwing with your reputation in a way you shouldn't if agree to demands and ignore them.

How many of those against Shory's stand would be OK with his crew rolling tape secretly?

    "Fuck Lane and his conditions."
