What factored into his decision was being told he would take over as AD once Pat Richter stepped down.

I'll talk Schiano or Spurrier as my guess.

Think Schiano may like being king of his own kingdom a little too much. It'd be tough to build a top-10 program there, but imagine how loved dude would be if he did.

Only place I think Schiano may leave for would be Penn State, if for some reason the powers that be are stupid enough to pass over Tom Bradley.

Is it true the star UM alums are, ahem, more "hands-on" than star alums at other schools?

And why would Schiano want to leave Rutgers? Aside from, you know, ego? He's like the coach at a mid-major hoops school who has turned a David into a Goliath. He can walk on water on that campus and can probably write his own ticket for as long as he wants. He goes to UM and he'll be in trouble if he doesn't win a title in four years.

It's better to make yourself king than to be made king.

Uhhh... you can't win a national title at Rutgers?

Yeah, you can't win a National Championship at a Big East school.

Schiano will be prominently mentioned for every major college job for the next five years. Why go to a school with outsized expectations and outdated facilities? He can wait for better offers in the coming years (i.e. Notre Dame or USC if Weis or Carroll leave, etc.)

    Why not?

And I can't believe I'm arguing on behalf of Rutgers, either.
