The first question by Walter_Sobchak is one I've asked numerous times through the years...how in the name of Pete Rozelle can a weekly get accredited every year to cover a Super Bowl? Amazing. Almost as bad as the likes of Entertainment Tonight, The Weather Channel and assorted other specialists in our business getting a pass over a legitimate media outlet.

Super Bowl didn't even sell out its first year. Probably wasn't a huge demand for credentials in the early years.

And for a lot of events, if you get a credential one year you're in until you stop going. Not sure why people are so amazed by this.

But tell me if my memory serves me correctly, didn't they at one time restrict or limit credentials to newspapers with high circulation counts? that if you were under a certain number, your chances of getting a credential were slim and none? maybe I am thinking of some other big event...

it's like you're not listening or reading the posts above you: if you had a credential before, you still get one. it's not that complicated.

and as someone posted above, the NFL is probably smart enough to know that pulling a credential from an all-black paper, even one that 100 percent of the country outside the twin cities has never heard of, is not a good PR move.

    Gus Johnson is horrendous.

We now return to our regularly scheduled argument.

Perhaps you missed the Rose Bowl telecast when Papa Griese spent about 3 hours in Pasadena making man-love to his son, Brian, in the late-90s.
The event was capped by Brian giving the thumbs up sign up to the booth. His father then reciprocated.
    I wanted to fucking vomit.

Plus, the refs fucked Wazzu out of a final play.

    I've always blamed Bob Griese.

I would hope that as a journalist, Fitz Sr. would not blur the lines.
But I should not have to hope.
This is not kosher, folks. Particularly the jersey-wearing tidbit.

Do newspapers that cover minorities get a pass when it comes to ethics and proper behavior in a press box?

    WTF?
Last time I checked, there were more people from papers who didn't cover minorities acting like idiots in a press box. I have never seen a minority cheer in a press box, ask for an autograph or eat like a hog on free food and say they are too stuffed to work.
As for Larry Sr., I'm sure he's a proud papa but I also believe he wants to do the right thing and present himself as an unbiased journalist.

How is it so hard to understand that horse has already left the fucking barn (forever) when he wore his son's jersey to cover a game last week.
