    I knew that :)

One of the running jokes in that movie was that whenever they cut back to "Amazon Women on the Moon," they'd introduce it as "The XXX classic ..." with a different year each time.

I liked Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, but is it bad I kept hoping Troy McClure would appear on screen and monkeys would start breakdancing to Falco?

    Ugh.
    Too. Damn. Long.
Too few characters to care about. A tangled mess that I ended up not caring about.
No.. that's not true. You know what I wanted? The end of the ice fishing story. And I didn't even get that.

Nice soundtrack though. One of the best.

To be fair, I think that's something that could improve just about any movie. "Dr. Zaius, Dr. Zaius!"

Saw a screening of The Hundred-Foot Journey. Though extremely predictable, it is a cute, fun movie and definitely food porn for anyone wanting to start a French-Indian fusion restaurant. If you're a foodie, see it in the theater, if not, see it on DVD.

Rewatched "Blazing Saddles" again (I own it); why aren't there these Mel Brooks type of movies any longer?

Funny you should mention that. I watched a little of Blazing Saddles myself tonight. Actually, my sister got me the Mel Brooks Collection DVD set for my birthday last month, so I started watching it from the beginning tonight.

First off was The Twelve Chairs (apparently, from the box cover, it was actually a rated-G movie, by Mel Brooks, go figure). It had a few funny moments, but doesn't really measure up to future Brooks classics. It was interesting watching a very young Frank Langella, though.

I then put on Saddles and watched the first third or so. Still my favorite comedy ever, and I treasure it because I know they could never make that movie today.

Oh, yes. Also, on a rare Tuesday off, I was hanging out at the local mall theater and decided to see "The Fluffy Movie," the Gabriel Iglesias concert film. I felt a little funny paying a movie ticket to see something that should probably be a cable special, but I'm a big fan, so I thought I'd give it a shot.

Plenty of laughs, though not quite as funny as the comedy specials I've seen (if you like Fluffy, check out the most recent Comedy Central special out of Hawaii), and in the latter part of the movie, he delves into his relationship with his stepson and the reunion with his long-absent dad, which is actually pretty poignant.

Just catching "Stripes" for like the millionth time on one of the Encore channels.

Very sad that even though the movie is not that old (1981), three of its main actors -- Warren Oates (Sgt. Hulka), Harold Ramis (Russell Ziske) and John Candy (Dewey Oxberger) -- were all taken too soon.

Addendum: Watching the credits, I noticed Stillman's girlfriend (the bimbo-like character he was trying to score with when he discovered his "fucking truck" was taken for a joyride by Murray and Ramis) was played by an actress named Lois Aurino. For the heck of it, I googled her and it took me to IMDB.

Turns out, we can add Miss Aurino, who also went by Lois Hamilton, to the gone-too-soon list from this movie.

In May 1999, she suffered a broken jaw, vertebrae and hip in a head-on car collision. She was under the influence of cocaine and diet pills, among other things.

Then, on Dec. 23 of the same year, she locked herself in her hotel room at the Sheraton Hotel in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She took several pills and placed a plastic bag over her head and died shortly thereafter.

The really sad part? She was far from a bimbo. She attended Temple University and the University of Florence in Florence, Italy, where she received degrees in Psychology and Fine Arts.

    RIP, all.
