    Twin DVD bill today:
"No Country for Old Men" - gloriously creepy. Original murder weapon. Javier Bardem was shooting fish in a barrel for the Oscar.
"Man on Wire" - Phenomenal. Of all the Twin Towers tales, this may have been the craziest. Phillippe Petit may be one sick man, but amazing nonetheless.
Also, "Freedom's Fury," about the 1956 Hungary-USSR "blood in the water" water polo match and the Hungarian Revolution that preceded it, is a must-see.

Just watched Bride Wars. Eh, I knew it was going to be bad so I had pretty low expectations. It wasn't great, it had some good moments but overall nothing to watch more than once.

I saw it recently, too. A few good moments, but not very skillfully made; Candice Bergen's voice-overs were very random and useless. Little Children also had a lot of voice-over, which usually isn't a good sign for a film.

Javier Bardem was not Oscar-worthy for this role.

  6. Last two movies I saw were "Harvard beats Yale, 29-29" and "Wilco: Ashes of American Flags." HBY is awesome, they do a great job technicoloring the game footage and incorporating it into the movie, as well as with the social upheaval going on at the time. And, of course, the new Wilco movie is just fucking NAILS. I don't think I'll ever get sick of hearing Shot in the Arm and Impossible Germany might be the most underrated Wilco song ever. Epic version of Via Chicago as well. Jeff is back in rare form and he is happy, GREAT news for Wilco fans!

I'm not ashamed to admit I sometimes get wet (in the eyes) when I hear the lines "All my lies are always wishes, I know I would die if I could come back new."

MMcC's an epic pretty-boy stiff. Utterly worthless. Dead weight.

Sorry for the Wilco-jack. Impossible Germany, I liked it when I first heard it. But it never really grew from there, if that makes sense. Wilco is a "grow from there" band, where I hear a song, kinda like it, then I listen to it again and again and I love it. "You Are My Face" fits that bill from SBS. As does, strangely enough, "Shake It Off," which I hated at first, but once I really picked up on the musical arrangements, started to totally dig. It's actually a bit of an underrated bar song, in the right crowd ... i.e., hippies and Wilco fans.

Was so stoked the first time I saw Wilco and they opened with a bangin' version of Via Chicago. When I saw them last year, they crushed "Misunderstood" which I had always wanted to see live. Reminds me ... need to secure those Wolf Trap tix for July ...

  9. I'm already ahead of you on the Wilco Wolf Trap tickets. This will be my first trip to WT and I'm looking forward to bringing a (small) cooler of Yuengling on the Metro and shuttle to the place.

Other than Outta Mind (outta site), Misunderstood is my favorite Wilco song. Nothing beats the "I want to thank you all for nothing, nothing x30" live finish.

Just watched the "Day The Earth Stood Still" remake. Or, as I like to call it: "The Day Nothing Happened".

    (spoiler warning)

Ninety minutes of "Sorry, we have to kill you to save Earth" followed by two minutes of "Aww, don't cry. I guess we can just cancel our plans and stuff".

Promising concept, poorly executed. Don't know if the original was just like this but if so, I'm glad I've never seen it.

Saw "Mr. Brooks" last night, the Kevin Costner serial killer movie. When Dane Cook isn't the worst thing in your movie, not a good sign. Skip it ...
