The Drop is a wonderful movie about double-crosses and the Chechen mob with fine performances from Tom Hardy and James Gandolfoni but Rocco steals the show.

DVR'd Killer Joe on HBO the other night. McConaughey is great in it (as are Emile Hirsch and Thomas Haden Church), but I felt like I needed a shower afterward.

    'Killer Joe' was good.
Juno Temple has a lot of sex appeal. She was the reason the movie worked so well.

The Maze Runner is an entertaining, edge-of-the-seat movie but also leaves you wondering what was the point? I realize it's the first of three and it is worth seeing in theaters. I'm definitely interested enough to want to watch the next one. But, I don't know, the ending was unsatisfying and made me question the entirety of the movie and the story's premise. Clearly I'm on the fence about this one.

The Iceman with Michael Shannon as the notorious contract killer. Shannon was simply fantastic and if you're a mafia buff, it's a must-see film.

Finally saw "The Way, Way Back" last night. Sam Rockwell is the bomb.

Would kids today appreciate Breakfast Club or Sixteen Candles or any of the Brat Pack movies?

Showed "Hoosiers" last night as part of my sports movie outreach.

Was struck by how short Dennis Hopper appeared to be.

Watched Philomena recently. Enjoyable movie. Dench and Coogan were great. I liked the contrast between their characters' outlook on life.

    I loved that movie.

We finally watched 'Nebraska.' Pretty good, not great, but Dern and the woman who played his wife were very good.
