Waterworld is not a terrible movie. People pre-judged it based on what it cost to make, which is stupid.

Right. Waterworld also had major cost over-runs and production delays.

As RJ mentioned, it also cost $175 million to make. Some headline writer somewhere came up with the inspired tag "Fish-tar" and that was that, despite the fact it grossed $264 million worldwide.

Titanic was hit with some of the same pre-release publicity for its (at the time) exorbitant cost, then it made billions and won the Oscar and everyone forgot how much it cost.

The Postman, on the other hand, cost $80 million and brought in $17 million.

Waterworld was an ambitious movie for its time, sheerly from what it involved to make it.
The prevailing wisdom around Hollywood has been that a water picture is the riskiest proposition out there.

Waterworld actually was a pretty good concept. Dennis Hopper's caricature of a villain was probably the worst part of it, but - as previously noted - it got it far worse reviews than it deserved because of the budget overruns.

That's the kind of movie that could benefit from a retelling, though no studio would touch it if it were associated in any way with the original.

The Postman was pretty awful. The novel it was based on, however, was really, really good. Written by David Brin, it's well worth the $4 it costs used (or the $10 new, if you're feeling generous.)

I thought about leaving Pacific Rim but I didn't.

I played football as a freshman in college and on home game Fridays we had a team meal and went to the movies.

I don't remember the movie, but we all got up and walked out of one. That was the last and only time as near as I can remember.

I saw a Richard Pryor Showtime documentary that had been sitting on my DVR for a few months. Really good flick.

Had a hard time coming up with a way to sum up my thoughts on Interstellar, but here's what I came up with.
Interstellar isn't a great movie - the sound mixing is awful - but it is a stunning and intense ride through space and time.

    Secretary.

Though with Maggie Gyllenhaal's teeth, they could have called it "Secretariat."

I kinda felt the same way. It was provocative, inspiring and a fun ride.
