  1. The Drop.
Slow and plodding, but I really enjoyed the payoff.

The Way Way Back was Ok. Aside from the main character's new-found confidence, nothing else changed. And the situations were the same at the end as they were at the start.
I was hoping from more at the end.

I agree that little else changed. A better ending could have included a more dramatic breakup of Duncan's mom and Steve Carrell. But the character of Duncan, who i most identified with, it was a great coming-of-age film.

  3. More dramatic?
I'm of the opinion there's was no breakup.
Yeah she chose to sit with her son in the rumble seat, but ... so? I took that as a momentary choice of her son instead of the BF.

That is how I took it as well. Maybe it was a sign she wouldn't put up with as much of the boyfriend's crap in the future, but I don't think it was a breakup.

  5. If it was break up.. she'd wouldn't have left. She gave that little speech to her son while packing that she was making a choice to stay out fear.
I didn't her seeing the boy come into HIS own was going to change her fear, for herself.

I watched The Constant Gardner this morning. Well done but all the poverty and greed, plus the ending, left me depressed.

"Begin Again," with Kiera Knightley and Mark Ruffalo. Good flick, especially for indie music fans — apparently, KK is actually singing and she's not bad.

  8. Watched some stand up comedy the last few nights.
    Aziz Ansari Live at MSG
Patton Oswalt Tragedy Plus Comedy equals Time
    Ralphie May's Unruly

May was pretty funny, but a lot of sex jokes - low hanging fruit. He did about an hour and half of material.
Oswalt was pretty good, prolly the best of the trio.
Ansari ... I was disappointed with this. A few LOL moments, but a big drop off from his other specials.

    I love that movie.

Anyway, I finally saw 'Whiplash,' and I thought it was excellent.

What a weird movie. I liked it.

    Stage Fright
It's a musical horror comedy. The only bad thing about making fun of a musical is that it's still a musical. Scream meets Glee, and way over the top. Can't un-see it.

Nearby cineplex has starting running classic movies on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and last night I took Mrs. Albert to see Butch and the Kid, along with our daughter and her new boyfriend. A little dated in spots, primarily the musical interludes, but overall it still holds up well. Even though you know what's coming, the ending is pretty jarring. They've got The Godfather showing in a couple of weeks, and we may try to catch that.

Is that the Oswalt special where he closes with the hooker story? Or is it a new one?

A lot of Ralphie's act is low hanging fruit, but he owns it live.
