Jurassic World on Friday. I really liked it. The plot very closely mirrors the original with some nice homages mixed in, and there was enough action to keep it moving along. A lot more watchable than the reviews I read suggested.

Spartan, I noticed that too. There seemed to be lots of preschool-aged kids in the theatre. In my view, the violence and gore were a bit too intense for kids that age. Surprisingly, they were well behaved. I kept waiting for one to start wailing. Guess I got lucky.

Also watched Blackhat on DVD last night. I saw it in the theatre and didn't remember it being as long and tedious as it seemed last night. I'd rate it not terrible.

The only reason I would see Jurassic World is I think Chris Pratt is fun to watch. He really had that smart-ass anti-hero thing going.

Otherwise, how many ways can they tell this story? And this is from someone who read the Crichton books and couldn't wait till they turned it into a movie, oh so many decades ago.

Saw "The Imitation Game" on DVD. Great flick. Cumberbatch has those brilliant-but-socially inept characters locked down.

The reviews of Jurasic World didn't do it justice. Not nearly as bad as some made it out to be.

I'm debating seeing it in IMAX 3D. I saw the original in IMAX 3D when they rereleased it a couple of years ago and it was like seeing a different (and incredible) movie. It was fantastic in that format. However, the nearest IMAX is about an hour from me, so it becomes a 5-hour commitment (hour each way driving, 2.5 hours in the theater, 30 mins parking/leaving mall) instead of a 2.5-hour commitment if I go to the local (much crappier) theater. With a 1-month old at home, it's tough to get away for 5 hours.

Watched Jurrasic World and Love and Mercy on Sunday.

Love and Mercy is an unconventional biopic that takes Brian Wilson's tortured soul and exposes it while shining a spotlight on his musical genius. Different, but also entertaining, largely because of the strong performances from Dano, Cusack, Banks and Giamatti.

Jurrasic World is exactly what you'd expect and that's perfectly all right. It had enough action, humor and drama to keep you on the edge of your seat.

I've never seen any of the dinosaur movies. I might have been 13 when the first one was released, like mid-90s? Just wasn't into dinosaurs.

Wait, I did see Super Mario Bros. There were dinosaurs in that one.

You've seen Super Mario Bros. but not Jurassic Park?? That's a sick, sick joke.

    And?

I saw it recently, too. I like the cast. Somewhat predictable, but the performances make it worthwhile.
