Warriors coming out to play one final time.

    I'm tempted to go.

I wish I knew more about the TV show, but it predates me by about 10 years, but I watched The Man from UNCLE yesterday. Nobody will call it a great movie, but it was a fun spy film and extremely entertaining. Henry Cavill plays the smart-ass American pretty well.

Question: was there a cameo at least by David McCallum, the guy who plays Ducky on NCIS?

He was in the original as Russian agent Illya Kuryakin and I thought it would be cool if they included him. Would be the only reason I'd see the remake.

NCIS had a nice reference once when a character asked a longtime friend of Ducky what he looked like as a younger man. After a brief pause, Gibbs (Mark Harmon) replied "Illya Kuryakin."

Watched ‪The Giver‬ and was underwhelmed. It's got a good message of love and acceptance, but doesn't really invoke any emotions or suspense. The Giver definitely has a sense of Pleasantville, and it's a pleasant enough movie, just not a very good one.

Caught two on TCM last night: 12 Angry Men, which was preceded by Thieves' Highway.

I had never seen Thieves' Highway before and I mostly enjoyed it: the scenery of post war trucking, highways prior to the interstate system, San Fran and the Oakland fruit district. And the suspense.

But I thought the very end was stupid. Might as well been Toonces the cat driving as the end credits came up.

Calvary on Cinemax. It's the best film I've seen this year. Brendan Gleeson is fantastic as the lead. The film opens with Gleeson (a priest) in a confessional with an unkown man, who tells Gleeson he will kill him in a week. I'll leave it at that and not spoil anything. If you have a chance, check it out. It reminds me of a film Ingmar Bergman could make today if he were alive.

I had an Illya Kuryakin action figure and a Man from U.N.C.LE. attache case (with a hidden cap gun) when I was a kid.

    That is a perfect description.

It's a worth-a-looksey movie for sure. Brendan was great in it.

  12. I think that's also on Netflix... Been tempted to pull the trigger. I will do so - after I wrap up rest of Dr. Who season.
