High Noon is a little better than pretty good.

Last movie I saw was Major Dundee with Charlton Heston, Richard Harris, Jim Hutton and James Colburn.

Interesting reading up on The Alamo while I was watching it, John Wayne hated High Noon, which I guess was seen as a response to McCarthyism, so he made Rio Bravo in response. The Alamo was Wayne's answer to The Cold War. Apparently the Mexican Army were the Reds and the Alamo was America.
I took a class on Film in the 1950s (it was actually an English class) and it was surprising to realize the symbolism of the most simple items.

Anyone ever seen Teeth? The 2007 indie movie featuring a vagina with teeth that bites off penises?

    It's awesome.

Um, no thanks. I've got enough issues with the fact that it looks like the big bug in Starship Troopers. I don't need to worry about that now. lmao.

Saw Gran Torino. It was as if Dirty Harry got old, moved to the Detroit area and gained perspective but kept his propensity for violence. Or it's as if Clint's Unforgiven character moved to the Detroit area and kept perspective and his propensity for violence. Not a particularly complex movie, and most of the characters are ciphers. And a Jesus metaphor is as much of a red flag for a movie as a voiceover. But Clint does provide some shadings to a character he can do in his sleep. And the twist near the end is refreshing; he again proves (as he did in Tightrope and Bridges of Madison County) that the best Clint is a vulnerable Clint.

And Breakfast at Tiffany's? I like Deep Blue Something's version better. Blake Edwards did much better work later on. I guess it was kinda decadent for its time.

I'm in the middle of a TCM kick. If you recommend anything on this list (http://www.tcm.com/schedule/month/) tell me about it so I can TIVO it. I note the following:

    Goldfinger (1964) (Connery as Bond)

    Thunderball (1965) (Connery as Bond)

Woman Of Straw (1964). A rich old man's nurse and his nephew plot his murder. Cast: Gina Lollobrigida, Sean Connery, Ralph Richardson. Dir: Basil Dearden.

Trip, The (1967). A young man drops acid in search of help with his troubled emotional life. Cast: Peter Fonda, Susan Strasberg, Bruce Dern. Dir: Roger Corman.

Network (1976). "I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore!"

F.I.S.T. (1978). A small-time union member trades his integrity for power within the organization. Sylvester Stallone

Natural, The (1984). An overaged baseball player comes out of nowhere to save his team. Cast: Robert Redford, Glenn Close, Kim Basinger.

    Rain Man (1988)

    Diner (1982)

Eat Drink Man Woman (1994) (Dir. Ang Lee)

It's really gory and outrageous, but it's a fun watch. The young actress reminds me of a young Streep a little. She's really good.

Hadn't noticed Rear Window. Jimmy Stewart, Grace Kelly, Raymond Burr. Dir: Alfred Hitchcock. Has to be good.
