Mockingjay 2 last night I'd re-read the last half of the book on a ferry ride recently to refresh my memory. The Plutarch write-arounds worked; the last scene did not. It was a very cheesy final scene.

No 2D option here, so I had to see it in 3D, which was not worth it. I just don't get the 3D draw.

My fun Hunger Games experience: First movie in Indonesia, second in U.S., third in Hong Kong and last in China.

And my double feature weekend finished with Point Break, also in 3D. (I don't seem to have other options here.) Here, it worked way more so.

The scenery is terrific and the plot is different enough to not feel like it rapes the memory of Swayze and Reeves. But the problem is it was really hard to buy the reason for the "crime spree," or whatever you want to call it. It was like, um, they're doing all this stuff ... why? It just didn't make sense.

But I've seen movies that made less sense, and I reasonably enjoyed this one. I wouldn't go out of my way to see it again, and I'm really glad I didn't waste a trip to Hong Kong for it.

Sounds my initial reaction to the trailer may be accurate in that it looks like a decent movie that just shouldn't have been called Point Break. Better to have been a ripoff than a remake.

Saw Spotlight. Really nailed it--from the look of the place, to the clothes, the meetings, the hours, the interviews, how papers miss stuff.

    Just about perfect.

    "The Good Dinosaur."

It suffered from what I have come to call "The Hunger Games Problem." When you know that your main character is going to survive, and the movie's action is almost exclusively devoted to putting said main character in perilous situations where the driving question is, "Will said character survive?," then it makes for a frequently very tedious viewing experience.

Finally saw Creed over the weekend. Loved it, but I'm an admitted Rocky fanboi (except for Rocky V, every copy of which should be launched into the sun).

One thing that really stuck out with me was Creed's first real fight and how it was shot. I may be wrong, but it looked like it was done all in one shot, with the camera moving in for tight shots and out to catch the action and then to the side of the ring to get Rocky's reaction. Back and forth like that. If it really was done in one shot, that is some truly masterful moviemaking. Regardless, it looked really cool.

The more I think about Creed, the more I like it.

It was just such a lived in universe and it had a very "real" feeling or as real as Hollywood allows for.

I liked it, too, very much. However, I'm not familiar with any court systems that permit you to suspend your 3 1/2-year prison sentence for several months so that you can defend your light heavyweight title.

Floyd Mayweather just kicked a cat, because, well, he's a shitty human being. But also ...

Let's be honest ... your objection should have been spot on. The fact that there's a real-world example is pretty outrageous.

Saw Aloha, the Cameron Crowe flick that got laughed out of the theaters earlier this year.

Yes, it's as mediocre as everyone says. Being Crowe, of course, there are nice moments scattered here and there. But it's still lousy.
