My wife said the same thing about The Big Short, which featured a character based on a guy she went to college with. It distracted her a bit from the film, but she still enjoyed it.

Agree that a popcorn tentpole flick should probably win an Oscar someday, but Mad Max: Fury Road just isn't it. I enjoyed it, but I was fairly stunned at the level of critical praise heaped upon it. It was fun. It was mindless. Frankly, it could have used more of Max. It looked gorgeous. The stunts were incredibly well done. But it was far from Best Picture worthy. Hell, The Force Awakens was a better popcorn flick.

Just saw Brooklyn. Good acting and such. Sort of dull, but still good. Going to catch Spotlight tomorrow afternoon. Still want to catch Bridge of Spies and The Revenant - missed both at the local cinema. As of now four out of eight. Which like Michael, is kind of high for me.

Last one was probably LOTR 3.
I liked 'Fury Road,' but I dont' get the level of praise it gets.
It was good but it didn't resonate with me beyond mild entertainment.

Want to watch Career Opportunities just to see a young Jennifer Connolly.

@Songbird If that is your criteria I recommend The Hot Spot with her and Don Jonson.

Black Mass. It was gritty and violent, as expected. Just never got to the point where it was riveting viewing.

  8. You recommend it?
The previews look riveting. Its touted as a great horror movie, but I haven't see any reviews.

I'd recommend it, yes. Only about an hour and a half long. Excellent job of representing the 17th century time period it takes place in. Worth the time.

Finally got to see Deadpool today. Definitely the fun ride I expected, funny and extremely violent. Mrs. OOP thought they took the violence a bit too far, but I thought it worked. Reynolds is great in the role. I thought the Colossus as straight main bit was a bit overplayed, but overall I liked the supporting cast.

There are a ton of Easter Eggs, from Hello Kitty references to the supporting characters from the comics. I do wonder if the scene where he runs into an old friend in the final battle makes sense to people who haven't read the comics.

That's what made that movie so great. Even if you didn't understand the backstory of that joke (and I didn't until I read about it later), it's still funny as just a random joke thrown into the middle of the big battle scene.

It also works just as a reminder that Wade Wilson was a mercenary and it would make sense that he has a friend working for the bad guy.

I'm sure I will catch some of the gags on a second viewing.
