    Yeah, it was pretty bad.

Saw Finding Dory yesterday with my wife, 4-year-old and two of his cousins. It was decent enough, had a bunch of laugh out loud moments and the animation is really well done. But it definitely fell short of the original.

Nemo was more of a buddy road-trip kind of movie, while this was more of an escape film. But instead of the plot leading up to one big daring escape, it was a collection of scenes of escapes. Escape octopus, escape the tank, escape the kids' hands, escape the truck. The film lacked cohesion, which I suppose could partly be a function of Dory's memory, but mostly I think the story wasn't as well written as a lot of other Pixar films.

The kids loved it, particularly the Hank character voiced by Ed O'Neill (who I also enjoyed). Ty Burrell was also very funny and the younger Dory was exceptionally cute.

The animated short, Piper, which played before the film, was incredibly well animated and very cute.

Caught a movie called "Two Night Stand" on one of the movie channels and enjoyed it. Then again, I'm going to stay glued to the screen whenever Annaleigh Tipton is on.

Also watched "The Duff" a couple nights ago and enjoyed that. Good performance by Mae Whitman, who has turned into a pretty darn good actress. (For connection to previous posts, Mae Whitman is the president's daughter in the original Independence Day being talked about here.)

Watching the flick with Ice Cube and Kevin Hart. It is ... Donald Trump giving a speech.

"Moonstruck" the other night with the wife. I got sick the next day. Coincidence?

I have not seen 'Moonstruck' in a long time, but that was a wonderful movie.

Nic Cage before he turned into a complete hack. Cher looking somewhat (somewhat) attractive. Yeah, pretty decent flick. Olympia Dukakis was the best actor in it.

    It's a borderline great movie but I can't think of a flaw.

That's pretty much what the novel did, aside from some minor inventions here and there.

It was a good book and it would've been interesting - in a weird sort of way, admittedly - if the movie had ditched the imaginary son in favor of telling about Hugh Glass's two years as a pirate on the high seas.

  9. Last Witch Hunter ...
    Good action movie.
Man, Vin Diesel is a terrible actor.

Also had the Jon Snow's wildling girlfriend. Not nekked, though.

Just got done watching The Big Short. Really well done -- but also terrifying, even today -- maybe especially today -- because I'm more convinced than ever, even more than I was in 2008-09, that we're all fucked.

That was a grim sentence I just typed.

Good movie, though. And the book was really good, too. Same goes for Too Big To Fail.

  12. Ghostbusters reviews seem to be split along gender lines.
Female reviews favorable. Male reviews are not.
In other words this is probably an OK movie, surefire rental.
